Ask Men recently called in a woman to answer the pressing question: what feminist demands do women want men to ignore?
The list the "relationship correspondent" came up with is awesomely and unintentionally funny, as is the accompanying article. Of course, the writer points out that she's not talking about "the stereotypical, garden-variety, hairy-armpit feminist." Instead she's focused on the "sexy feminist" — the non-clingy girlfriend who can pay her own bills.
The list of "those pesky feminist demands that even the most independent of women is expecting you to ignore" include:
- "I can carry my own bag."
- "Don't objectify me!"
- "I'll pay my share."
- "I can think for myself!"
- "I won't be shackled into a marriage."
Would you be happy if men ignored these so-called feminist demands?

I actually can think for myself. I don't want men to ignore that one...and I don't really say any of those other things
1"I won't be shackled into a marriage?" Who says that? I need to use shackle more often
2It's a straw man argument.
3i do want men to carry my bags and i do want men to pay my share and i do want to get married - but i also want to think for myself and don't tend to enjoy objectification unless in the throes of passion
only annoying people say this kind of thing anyway
4I want to think for myself. Though I want a man to carry my bags etc not because I can't or he thinks I can't but because he cares about me specifically and wants to be helpful.
5This article as a whole is aggrivating. I don't think it's right that the writer (who is, ironically enough, a woman) feels she can sum up what every woman wants. Every person is different, therefore wants different things. Her definition of "objectifying" is a bit off from what I have heard most feminists discuss. It's not as simple as saying they look beautiful in their new dress. And "I can think for myself" usually doesn't apply to someone making you dinner without your input. Idiot. I really hope men who read this don't take this seriously.
6I like a nice guy here and there. However the guy has to be sincere about it and I will be happy if a guy offered to pay for dinner, took my bags or just whatever comes to mind. Beyond that if a guy is not sincere then I am not happy and then I feel as though that guy is a dick.
7You can carry my bags and objectify me occasionally. I'm cool with that. I can think for myself though.
8I'm not happy with the writer of this article telling men to ignore these comments. I actually agree with all of them, and i'm in no way a butch, non armpit shaving, amazon. Compliments and paying for a dinner is nice, but objectification and not being viewed as an equal is not ok in my eyes. I want a man who will let me pay for dinner or let me hold the door open for him too, because i'm nice and i want to sometimes, the problem is with some chivalrous men, is that yes they hold the door open carry your bags etc, but they will not walk through a door if you hold it open for them and that's my problem if they don't view you as equal. I know guys who wont date a girl if she makes more money than them because he wouldn't be the man and he needs to feel more dominant, they openly say this.
To each their own but i do have my reasoning. I grew up in a pretty sexist arab society, although my mom was american, and she made sure we knew our rights here in america. So when i say -" I can carry my own bag.","Don't objectify me!", "I'll pay my share.", "I can think for myself!", "I won't be shackled into a marriage." I mean it, because i'm not like my cousins getting married off at 18 to a man who'll support them, think women are only for having children and to please the men, won't allow them to think for themselves(most of the girls can't go anywhere without a male family member escorting them). So i say these thing because i want an open minded guy who is confident enough in himself to not need me to be weak and inferior to make him feel better about himself. A guy who is a nice and courteous person, not just because i'm a girl, and who will like my acts of kindness in return. I want men to stop being scared of self sufficient women.
9P.S. I also want to mention i'm in no way talking about the arab race as a whole either, just my family and what i experienced growing up within that culture along with my American views. It made me the person i am today, but i wanted to clarify that i do not categorize the whole arab community with these views.
