All (women) aboard! India's four largest cities recently introduced the "Ladies Special" — a commuter train for women only. The cities have found that the segregated service is needed to prevent women from being groped, pinched, and subjected to shouted insults while they commute to work.
India isn't the first country to try something like this. Last year Mexico City addressed public sexual harassment by debuting women-only buses marked with pink placards of course. And such harassment is so prevalent in Japan that there's even a word ("chikan") just for subway gropers. (And let's not forget that you don't have to be groped to be harassed; you might witness someone masturbating while you're trying to get to work on the subway!)
Knowing that you can travel in peace must be a relief for women who have been sexually harassed by strange men. Does this ever happen to you?

Hasn't happened to me, but if it did, that man would be harassed right back across the face!
1thankfully not here but when i go to visit fam in india.. all the time!! and i dont even use buses.. this is just for walking from the car to your house. icky guys.
2Yes, and it's annoying. For me, it runs the gambit -- from men masturbating at me to honking and waving from their cars. Disturbing and rude.
3I'm with pharm chick. No harrassment in the U.S. unless it's a hispanic man. But when I'm in India, it's all the time. My mother says it is because of the sexually repressed culture, that men act out that way.
4Men are disgusting sometimes. Like GlowingMoon I have experienced the masturbation and such. I don't mind honking, though it's annoying. I do get followed a lot, and people will keep yelling things out the windows of their cars and what not. Sometimes while at work, a student will say something inappropriate, but I can also put them in their place for saying such things.
5I get it from all men, no matter the race. However, oddly, it's men of my own race that are overly-aggressive with how they approach me.
6Yes I do. Filthy pricks.
7I live in a college town so most of the other passengers are students. I find men don't pull that crap when there's a chance they might run into you in the hall the next day.
8I keep reading about men masturbating in public. Maybe I'm dense but I've never experienced this. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I just think it's pretty creepy that it seems so common. I mean are they crazy homeless people or like normal everyday looking guys? Well, I guess I'm lucky I've never found out.
9Mainly I get honks which don't really bother me much. I just never got the point. Why honk and drive away?
They have the pink car in the subways in Japan as well.
There's a site, can't remember the name. Hollaback something...??? where women take mobile phone camera pics of guys who harass them and post it on the site.
10On the New York Subways are the worst. They definitely need an all woman's mini train. From glares to stares. Eye undressing, groping, stealing a "feel", masturbation, flashing, you name it.
11yes all the time. i try to avoid walking and public transportation but sometimes having two jobs requires that. its happened to me since i was young and at times it gets dangerous. i cant say anything back because in my neighborhood there is constant rape and i could get killed for that. i dont even show skin i wear no makeup and wear big clothes to avoid the harrassment. and cops do it too... i cant wait to leave this place
12Growing up in Indonesia, I got groped, pinched, yelled at (racial names, rude names) pretty numerously, 95% of the time I was using public transportation or just walking in public and some men/a man was walking by.
13I was NEVER dressed in short skirts/shorts, I dressed conservatively or in my school uniform that screamed not sexy at all. People say it's because of my race/ethnicity but I think the men who did those were just jerks.
Unfortunately, I've been on public transit where I did witness a man masturbating. He was sitting right next to me and I looked down for whatever reason and saw him (and his "member")!! I ran to the other side of the bus and somebody asked me if anything was wrong... I couldn't even answer!! I'm far from a prude, but OMG!!! I was completely dumbfounded. Anyway, I haven't rode public transit since. I don't mind the catcalls (actually, to be honest, I sorta find it flattering in a sick sorta way) but I do mind seeing a mans penis on a bus! LADIES ONLY PLEASE... (then maybe I'll think about public transit again)
14Nope. I have never been on any public transportation, and I'm usually not aware of my surroundings AT ALL (I'm talking drove straight into a pole and backed up on numerous objects unaware). I like to think that people have common decency...so I'm gonna assume it just doesn't happen and not that I don't see it.
15@ali321- it's average everyday men. you have to remember that men in general are socialized by society to be sexually agressive, and that socialization manifests itself in all different ways.
yes, i live in new york, and i've been interrupted while i was on my cell because some guy wanted to talk to me, i've been grabbed by my arm and hand, i've had guys push up against me on the subway, yell at me from cars and once when i was walking through a crowd on a sidewalk a guy put his hand up my skirt. fortunately for them they disappeared into the crowd by the time i turned around. most of these sexually agressive men have gotten angry when i rejected them, some to the point where i felt physically threatned.
16I rarely take public transportation, rarely end up downtown in the city/busy avenues. I've experienced catcalls, but no physical harassment. I think it depends where you live... I know it happens here, but it doesn't seem to be as common, or aggressive, as say, New York or Japan (it seems). But the creeps are everywhere.
17Unfortunately, I've seen so many men masturbate in public, it's become more of a nuisance than an offense. Men harass women all the time, but nothing is as bad as Italy. An English friend and I did an Italian tour and my GOD how aggressive the men were. At first, it was funny. But when it's breakfast time, you're innocently trying to take a picture of the Colosseum and some putz asks you to meet him in the bushes for a shag...well, you ain't in Kansas anymore.
18In Chile, some cars are installed with horns that sound like a "you're pretty" whistle (or catcall whistle)... and then you can be walking around with your mom and the construction workers yell down at her "Hi mother-in-law!"... I kind of find these ways amusing, but DEFINITELY the guys who grab and touch - ugh... its disgusting. i can't even describe.
19I get harassed by women from what I wear, how I dress and how I smell. It bugs me on how women pay to much attention to what I am doing and not to what is important in the world.
20Nope, doesn't really happen to me. I've been hit on on the subway, and the street, but it was guys trying to start a conversation nothing intrusive.
21I live on a busy street and I get honked and yelled at all the time when I'm walking from my car to the house. I usually don't even look, flip them off and keep going. Once I flipped a good friend off who honked and didn't realize it until he told me later! I don't know what they think my reaction will be - "come and get me baby"?
22I've been hit on, stared at, and honked at quite a few times, but that's the most sexual harassment I've received. If some stranger masturbated in my presence, I would be scarred for life.
23I don't know why but I find honking so infuriating. I get so mad! I think its because it makes no sense. What do they expect me to do?? Especially at 8am when i'm just walking along to work & its some gross truckie honking. seriously. Sometimes its flattering if a guy says "looking good today" especially when ur not feeling too crash hot! But it depends how sleezy they look. I just think normal decent guys don't do those sorts of things.
24in my country (Philippines), we do separate the men from the women in our public trains; men here are so FOND of groping too
never been tried (thank God!) so it's a blessing our trains do the segregation too!
25When I go out running I get honked by passing cars/wolf whistled. I freaking HATE it. Do they think that every 100th honk earns them a blowjob ??
26I have masturbated many times in public. It was a big turn on to wear nothing but a raincoat and flash women. I did this for a long time until I was caught by the police wearing nothing but panties and a raincoat. So I do not do it any more:( I do not see the harm I never hurt anyone and never would. I had women even watch me jerk off until I was done.
27come on ladies is really is going to hurt you in anyway if you see someone naked of masturbating? If you are harmed in anyway just keep walking. if you see a flasher or see someone playing with them self don't make a fuss about it. When a women did it really turn me on and made me want to do it more. I liked it when the called me names and made fun of my penis it made me cum even faster. Just thought I would let you know how we think. Like I said I do not do it anymore so hopefully this will help someone to get through it and not let ruin their day
28You know the thing is that I can get that people have different kinks and whatnot, but as a part of society (at least American) do you not realize that it's not acceptable behavior? Even if it does turn you on you still have to know that it's messed up. This isn't just aimed at Anonymous. I'm just having a hard time thinking that normal people participate in this behavior. Unfortunately for these people they can't do what turns them on in private I guess.
29And for Anonymous clearly it is hurting people. Not physically, but it's invasive and disrespectful. Get a room already.
I guess I didn't look at as disrespecting someone but I can see how it might have been.I just didn't look at as personal thing; I do feel bad now for scaring women. I didn't mean to scare anyone now that I have read some comments I realize I did. If I had seen a thread like this maybe I would of thought twice about doing it'.
30what you call normal other people might think it weird. I do not see anything wrong or weird about sex as long as you are not hurting someone except those that like to be hurt. Are all people that have different taste in sex that different from yours weird and not normal?
No I don't believe I implied that at all. I didn't mean to if I did. In fact I said that I get that people have kinks and unfortunately for these people theirs is not done in private, so it becomes an issue for other people. I totally get that other people have different interests in sex. That's kind of the problem. When you bring what you do sexually in front of people and force them to witness you when they don't want to that is what I consider messed up. I don't care what people do in private as long as it's not against anyone's will. When you masturbate in public I consider that to be subjecting me to what you're doing against my will. I seriously don't think people can help what they desire sexually. I do think they can help what they choose to do and act on.
31I did not feel like I was making anyone do something against their will. I mean they had a choose One ignore Two react i.e. name call or however they choose to respond and third watch. There are a lot of things that are invasive in public. They way some people smell which at times I feel is disrespectful if it is really bad. They way some people talk dress and habits like picking their nose in public. My point is if it is not hurting me or anyone else the best thing for me to do is just ignore it and go on with my business. Some women I feel like playing the victim and I am in no way directing this at you ali321 [+]. They are like ooh I seen a penis ooh woo is me I am scared for life it was so frightening now I am a victim feel sorry for me. What I am saying is I think some just go over board and way over react. It is just a penis. Society has made the penis a bad thing some how
32I don't know that people feel scarred for just seeing a penis. It's what you're doing with it that matters. I don't know. I just feel like people don't crap in public, so why masturbate in public? It's kind of on the same level for a lot of people I think. At least for me. Plus it's very possibly illegal. And please don't assume that women are playing the victim. It is a real issue. Please consider that. But obviously we see things from different angles. Agree to disagree.
33I do agree to disagree but I do not disagree with you ali321
34Yes, it is illegal. I went to jail for it. Which I think was wrong and I will try to explain why. First, I am exhibitionism there are a lot of people who are male and female. If there is going to be a law like indecent exposés then the law should apply to all not just men. I went to jail for exposing myself. You cannot go to sporting event or concert or any place that has a large group of people drinking and there will be some women there that flashes her tits, ass, or goods. Not one thing will happen to her. But if a man does it he goes to jail and for the rest of his life he has to register like he is a child molester or rapist. But not a female. What about and there is lot of case like this but I will just use this one. The female teacher who slept with a 13 year old boy. She gets caught and only gets a 6 month suspended sentence. A male teacher of the same age and so is the student the teacher gets caught and he gets 20 years. What a double standard! He is called a pervert monster and every name it the book. Where is the justice in that? All I wanted was to be treated fairly as blind justice not seeing me as a man but someone that broke the law.lf a female does she should get the same time any exposure is done for sexual gratification. I was wrong now I see but I will pay for that mistake the rest of my like that is not fair when a female can do the same thing and not even spend one day in jail. I never exposed myself to a child but when those women do it there are kids in the crowds I was at on sporting event and a woman pulled down her pants and everyone cheered do you think that would of happen if it was a man? He would of gone to jail and been called a pervert and sick. It is time for this double standard to come down and there is a movement pushing for this.
Also, I wanted to add this on another form by the New Yoke Post there was this lady who took a picture of this guy who was wearing shorts with his gym bad on top she said his penis was hanging out. In the picture you really cannot see anything but she went on to call this guy all kinds of names and saying that we need to protect all women from this pervert. She posted his picture every were. There were a lot of women that jump on the ban wagon even though you cannot see his penis in picture. I and my friends have ridden the subway in New York and we have seen women wearing skirts with no panties. We did not take pictures and call the person on World Wide Web a pervert or try to ruin the women’s life. No we did not find it attractive at all she was to us she was not attractive! We turn are heads and didn’t cry oh what victims we are and try to get people feel sorry for us having to see such an unattractive thing. Because we as adults knew it to be for what it was just an incontinence not something to try to ruin someone life over. Can you believe some of the women post on the thread I speak of that the guy should spend the rest of his life in jail!!!!! That is just sick! Luckily a lot of guys got on and stuck up for the guy not defending him if he did do something wrong like a I said you could not see anything in picture. But the sheer over reacting by the females on that thread! I mean come on you want to send a guy to jail for life because you think you may have seen his penis. So yes I think some women like playing the victim. It gives them the attention they some how lack
35Segregation is not the answer come on do people really want to take a step back in time. Why stop at female and males why not do it for people of color ooh wait we did that and it didn’t work out-thank God! People at the time thought it was ok because they got offended when they had to sit next to someone of another color they said they smell bad. Segregation is a crime and should stay a crime!
36I don't know if you're directing that at me, but I agree with some of what you said. I don't think there should be a double standard either. But either way we're not just talking about nudity which isn't really a big deal to me in itself. And don't you think it's kind of a stretch to put equal rights for people to masturbate in public on the same level as racial segregation? lol
37I sorry I did not mean to say that (equal rights for people to masturbate in public on the same level as racial ) it is just the topic of this thread talking about segregation I did not mean to have anything to do with masturbation I am just saying I don't think we should go there. Because we been there and done that.
38All I did when I was arrested was flash my penis I was not masturbating so I was doing nothing more then what those women I spoke of. Like I said I do not do it anymore. Like I said in no way did I want to put racial segregation and what those people went through to get equality with ones sexual taste If anyone one took it that why I am truely sorry!
ali321 I want to thank you for having an intelligent conversation without name calling i.e pervert and so on I know want I have done in the pass is not the normal behavior for most people. But like I said if a woman can show her stuff and not go to jail I should have been allowed to also. I spent three years for showing my stuff. Like I said I was not masturbating. I have not heard of any women doing time for showing their stuff. I didn’t even talk about the street walkers who wear no panties set on mass transit if a man looks at them they will spread their legs trying to turn you on so they can make money. I can go on and on but I feel like you can see what I am saying.
