Two for the Road has to be one of the most original love stories ever created. It surveys the evolution of a marriage over a ten-year period, but instead of telling the story in strict chronological order, it intercuts several different time periods, from their ecstatic initial courtship to their weary disillusionment after several years of marriage. Frederic Raphael’s script poignantly captures the way in which time betrays the lovers' great expectations. Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney do justice to the script's comedic and tartly melancholy observations.
