Claiming that she couldn’t survive on her policewoman’s salary, Victoria Thorne, 29, became a $170-hour call girl for the Notorious Girls escort agency in Sunderland, England, for years before being caught. Not being particularly discreet about this second job, Thorne posed in her underwear on the agency’s website.
In addition to flouting the law she was supposed to uphold, Thorne also accessed confidential police files to get information on Notorious Girls’ rivals. After a months-long investigation, Thorne was arrested and sentenced to 15 months in jail.
You hear about the occasional rogue police officer who confiscates, say, a cocaine stash from dealers, only to be caught later selling the stuff for profit. I wonder if Thorne’s case will be viewed on par with something like that — or if the sexual nature of her criminal behavior will bring harsher reproach from her fellow officers.
Aside from her rifling through sensitive police files and the fact that prostitution is illegal (yeah, I know, that's pretty bad) — do you think prostitution is as bad as drug dealing?

Boots
They should lock her up and for more than 15 months.
1You go girl!!!! She is not on public assistance, begging for money but making her own way. This has gone on since the beginning of time; nOW what about all the public officials and other public servants that use these services..... HUM -
2Can one choose which laws to break? Uh, no. More than 15 months.
3She should be punished for using sensitive information in an unprofessional manner, but that is about it.
People who think prostitution is wrong kill me. Think about this, suppose all you want to do is have sex (or some related act). You meet a girl (or guy, let's use girl) that you think is attractive. You do things specifically to have sex with her such as spend time in the movies, at dinner, watching TV, "getting to know her" etc. Whatever she wants to hear you tell her, then finally you end up having sex (be it hours later or weeks, if it's months you need a hobby). Now you're done with her so you ditch her.
To ME this is MUCH more damaging than being honest with a woman and saying "I'm willing to give you $80 for a BJ, are you okay with that?" She gets money, you both save time, you both get what you want. Prostitution is so much more reasonable in this situation.
What's that? She's spreading diseases? She's treated poorly? She's using the money for drugs? How many people spread diseases that *aren't* prostitutes? How many men treat women poorly (or vice versa) that *aren't* prostitutes? How many people use drugs and get the money from stealing/robbing/etc.?
It's dumb. People want to have sex. We are animals. We have a biological urge, but we don't always feel like investing the time, energy, and money (it's *more* costly to get sex without prostitution often times). I mean really, some of my shirts cost more than I would spend on a prostitute. One dinner with a girl can cost 2-3 times what a prostitute would.
So go tend to your own affairs.
4I don't think what she did was so bad, at least she wasn't selling drugs. Nobody was forced to use her services, and prostitution has been around since the dawn of time, and will continue to be with us. To me, enforcing the laws against prostitution is a waste of police resources.
5Pretty much agree with above. I do think the cop should be punished for using the confidential police files though.
6Damn! shes hot!
7SPREAD THE JOY!!!!!!!
8If you think about it most prostitutes have regular check-ups and are drug and desease free. What it all comes down to is that the law-makers are upset that they didn't think about taxing a prostitute before they passed the law making prostitution illegal. If they had thought about it they would be making money for the state and government.
But I agree with them that she should not have used her powers as a police officer to check on other prostitution businesses. She does need to serve some time for that.
9prostitution is the worlds oldest profession. let it be. everyone's gotta make a living. it's a tough world out there.
10Yeah, I really don't think that some drug dealing is bad at all. Yes, it is not a good person that deals crack or meth, but pot or mushrooms? These are natural substances that grow in the earth, you really cannot place them in the same category as the harsher processed drugs in my opinion. There will always be people that want drugs, just like there will always be men that want to go to prostitutes. So you could say that both are just providing a desired service. I don't immediately make a moral judgment on people on people doing things that are illegal. Anyways, tobacco and alcohol account for more death and health problems than any other substance, but the difference is that the government makes a profit off of these substances. In this circumstance I would say that her behaviour was very hypocritical and nobody likes a crooked cop.
11I didn't think prostitution was illegal in Britain, just soliciting girls for prostitution. (Being a pimp or madame)
I don't agree with using police documents for unofficial uses, but I have no problem with someone being a pro, it's their choice and being a high glass working girl takes a helluva lot of effort, probably more than the rest of us put in day to day.
12True that prostitution has been around for ages. Yeah its natural to have and want sex. If it ended with the girl getting the money then its good. But what about those girls that do it Cause its all they THINK they can do to survive, Then give the money from the big guy that beat the sh*t out of her to her pimp, gets beaten up agian and then given drugs to keep her addicted to him. And hates herself and every part of her being for it. YEAH nothing wrong with renting out your body for someone to use how they see fit. Hell if your a 15 year old run away get a pimp and you can live a great life to the age of about 29 as a beaten up piece of meat for anyone with 5 bucks.
13Its not so much the Prositute tha I think should be Illeagal but all the REALLY horrible things that go with it. Underage ones. Girls getting killed. Doing it for drugs Pimps. Basic rented slavery. and as long as some one can sell sex it will always happen.
14Agree with above. Not the hooker But all the other stuff that is drawn in. Same with drugs. Most money from imported drugs goes to criminals that do LOTS of worse stuff. Just like most money from hookers goes to a pimp or gangs pocket to do heir sh*t. lets not forget those that are forced into it. Yeah it happens every where. Sex trade still has lots of slaves in eroupe and stuff. Very popular where prosittution is allowed. And once your in you really cant leave.
15Where I draw the line at, is that she was a police officer! The boys behind bars wouldn't complain and if truth be told there is a lot of other professionals in very sensitive jobs that are doing the same thing. Prostitution is one of the oldest professions known to man and the truth be told every man pays for it one way or another. If she wouldn't had used her badge to get dirt on the other girls and kept the two professions apart I believe she wouldn't have went to jail she would have probably only payed a fine and forced to resign from the Police Force.
16get off your high horses and let the b*tch off. It isn't an immoral crime! She hasn't caused evil and hurt anyone. She's just broken a law designed to protect women, and she doesn't need any protection (lol).
17Politicians are the ones supporting this habit.
18I would be for legalizing prostitution if the bill legalizing it also mandated capital punishment for pimps, brothel owners, and traffickers.
19I guess anyone choose how to live,I don't blame her,The economy in the whole world is going crazy and if she don't still or kill anyone and use her own body to do that I don't see the point to go jail.
20Prostitution has been around longer than any of us have been alive, so leave her alone. She has not hurt anyone. I bet that the person that arrested her was the one embarrassed not her. I would DEFINATLY hire her for a couple of hours, let HER show me a thing or two about FUN.Then refer her to all my friend's......
21The first time it was talked about (prostitution) was when one of Abraham's died. His widow discasied herself as a prostitute to spy on her father in-law who was on its way to a meeting with someone else. The widow did ask for sex to the young woman he came across; in repayment for sex she required of the old man : his ring and a stick. Three(3) months later she was pragnant. Then she sent to look for the man who gave her the ring and the stick. The investigation led to Abrahm! She later gave birth to a set of twin: Esau and Jacob...( Read on the Geneis' book.)
22Prostitution is, probably the oldest profession of the world. Please correct me , if I am wrong!
Should "prostitution " be legaized?
Big question, indeed!
Some countries have already legalise "prostituion"; others prefere to say: " don't say! Don't see!"
An other group consider "prostitution" as morally wrong but don't care. They only warn you of the consequences of sexsual promisquity, venerial diseases ; aonther group consider " prostitution " as a sort of " public entertainment" and therefor select specific areas of a city where it can be practice.
Marriage is the best resolution between men and women, when it comes to sexual relation between the two genders. It is considered honorable and sociaty praises all who get married to upring a nice family. Family is considered the most sacred union between men and women.( We can even go back as from the creation of woman (Eve) our mother. God said:" All of this appeared to be nice, to his eyes!
Other men consider extra marrital relations as healthy and good; some sociaty recognize one man could marry several women, at the same time, having several households, several sets of family; the bottom line is , the cost of living cutting a whole lot of these frivolities! many men and women prefer to settle-down and stick to one well organized family, economically financed; where husband and wife are working a regular job; have childre; raise them well; be happy and retire with lots of grand-children around them!
Prostitution can be a short-live temporary mistake among some women, until they find the right partner, husband, boy-friend. To each his own!
Like me, I am searching for my female soul-mate, capable to complete me and share her live with me! I am looking for an organized, sentimental, economic harmonious life where we would life a life full of love! Will I find her? Only God knows! "Prostitution" is a very big and vast subject!

Addition: " please read: Abrham's son ."
23Hey Anonymous, I'll bet you work for ACORN. Funny how they chose the name of a nut!
24I think she needs to serve more than just 15 months because she not only made her law enforcement look bad, she knew exactly what she was doing and did it for a long amount of time. You don't use police file information, confidential or not, for your own personal gain, especially like she did.
What a digrace.
25I knew a high-dollar call girl once, she was a good friend, (and friend, only, as we never mixed business with friendship) and she said she was very fortunate and smart, she never did it with anyone who she probably wouldn't have done it with for no money, but she got paid very well. She retired 5 years ago with about 1.5 mil in the bank...Go Girl!
26here we go its a guys fault yah right;; we makem do it what a joke most women would do it for nothing ( its my body ill do what i want syndrome) but wnen its time for jsil its a guys fault// ITS ILLEGAL WHAT PART DONT U WOMEN UNDERSTAND DAH
27This woman is a "millionnaire-in-the-making"; I can see it coming ... first, the book; then the movie.
28Prostitution seems to be such a wonderfull thing.
29Men can save money, and angst, by forgoing the meals, drinks, gifts, having to talk and listen;
and the girl does not have to put up with boring conversation, bad dancers, and she has a well paying job. Looks like a win-win-win situation. The third "win" is that no one gets pregnant, so the world's population is controlled. I ask you, does it get any better than that?
we are all prostitutes in one way are another. You work for 20yrs on a job and destroy your body and you are not a prostitute.Any one who works loans your body and mind to whom ever is paying the wage. We are all prostitutes for what we want and what we think we need.
30Prostitution, just like drug sales/use, is a victimless crime. The problems arise due to the fact that it is illegal. Think about it. If prostitution were legal, the women, or men, would be tested weekly for std's. If there were any disputes with customers or bosses, they could use the public court system to resolve these problems rather than resorting to violence. The pimps would be out of business. Same goes for drugs. If legalized, the Cartels would go broke because we could produce the drugs locally and keep American money in American hands. It is so simple yet so many people just don't get it. Prohibition is the problem! If you put a starving man next to a hamburger, he will eat it, no matter what the consequences. What happens when a lonely, loveless man is approached by a prostitute?
31There is no victim. Everyone of you zealots whining about a lenient sentence are giving it away. Do you consider yourselves criminals? It should not be illegal to sell something that you can legally give away for free. Ridiculous.
32DEALING COKE SHUD BE PUNISHED , HOOKING , IS A PUBLIC SERVICE !
33no she should not be locked up . the economy, family issues and mental health issues could have led her to that path. We all have to do what we have to to survive, prostitution should be legal and taxed ,promblem solved . If my children were hungry i wouldnt think twice about it
34No matter what the government does, there will always be and always has been prostitutes and men/women willing to pay them. But doesn't anyone think its ironic that a police officer who gets paid to "uphold the law" decided she would rather be a call girl? The grass is always greener...
35What are we waiting for. Legalize drugs (particularily Pot) and prostitution. And tax accordingly to cover the so called social damage. Eliminates the excessive profits which bring in the bad element, creates regulation and a health department oversite.
36Prostitution? What about marriage for money profit? Your wife after while becomes frigid, what do you do? You simply go where you get sex, no matter free or paid.
37What about allowing and even "advertising" for same sex marriage and tolerating this non-natural trend and banning prostitution, which is present all times and much more natural then adoption of boys by homoguys?
Well, problem is that the government has no revenue from prostitution as it has by selling alcohol, smokes and gas. The government would like to make some money based on human instinct but can not controll it, that's why prostitution is illegal. Gott sei dank, it exists anyway.
It should be legalized and the governments tax it just like any other job. It is legal in areas of Nevada and look at the income it brings that stae,
38sex sells. we're buying.
39You know I wonder about the use of the Bible all the time to dictate our morals .I am not an atheist and I do believe in a higher power but we do have to remember that the Bible was written by Man and they were also from jewish descent and women in general at the time the Bible was written were not held in very high regard other than mothers or virgins they were sold and bartered for and were not allowed a voice in the church and if they did voice an opion they were ostrasized for it. I have to admire a person that performs a need in the world and gets paid for it.At least they are not sitting around waiting for a free ride and in my opion they earn every penny considering they do what the client wants and sometimes it cannot be that attractive nor for that matter the clients may not be all that attractive either.I do think that the practice needs to be legalized and controlled especially health wise and I do think that the spying on the competition and using her employment as a police officer was not ethical lets face it most businesses operate that same way and the worse thing that happens to most of them is they loose their job, I don't think she should serve any time.
40First I want to start off by saying that general prostitution is not the exact same thing as being a call girl in an escort service. Yes, the BASE of it is the same - being paid for sex (which is unfortunately illegal). But all around, it is NOT the same. I feel this woman should NOT be punished for doing something she and someone else gives consent too especially and only because of the difference in a prostitute and a call girl. Call girls in reputable escort services get tested for stds and drugs, screen their clients, advertise privately through actual ads and websites and does everything behind private doors. And the reasons call girls do it because they enjoy it and make good money doing it to have a good life. Heck - I think the government is worse by selling addictive and health diminishing substances like tobacco and alcohol for profit compared to what she did.
A prostitute/street hooker however degrades women by flaunting too much skin and lude behavior and language on the streets for the whole community to see. They initiate and encourage violent behaviour for sexual desire by doing this as well. They spread diseases, are a bad influence to our children and are mainly on the street because of drugs. Not because they like sex or even make good money! (heck most street hookers only make $50 where a call girl will make like $500 BECAUSE they are clean, desirable, and fun AND private!) The hookers do it because its the only easy way they know to make quick bucks to get the drugs that they need. (and when these type of hookers say its the only way they know to make money...its the truth. They are trapped due to the cycle of drugs and prostitution. No job will hire someone who fails a piss test or atleast someone who looks strung out and keeps missing work because she's withdrawing because her check isnt comming in for two more days. Where on the street she can make a quick $50, go get high and than come back and do it again)
I dont see how the government has any right to dictate the call girl aspect of it all when its safe and private compared to hookers/prostitutes they should be dictating as it effects the entire community in negative ways. I mean what about porn stars? They get paid to have sex AND for the whole world to see if they so choose to PAY for it. They are also tested and screened. What makes porn stars and call girls so different? Nothing except public vs. private. Oh yeah I know the difference....the government makes money off of the porn industry. lol
But to the actual question at hand - do I think prostitution is as bad as selling drugs? Like I said - if compared to a call girl in a reputable escort service...NO, it is definately not. But if you are talking about street hookers/prostitution, I feel drugs and prositition are intwined together in cause and effect. They are both equally devastating to a community and feed off of eachother. 9 out of 10 street hookers/prostitutes are doing it FOR drugs. The dealers get young or even older women addicted and ruin their lives to the point that the only way they can get the drugs quickly and easily is prostitution. In which a new cycle begins where the drug dealers become pimps and gain even more profit off these unsuspecting and weak minded/innocent women AND men. Its a viscious cycle that the government should be concerned about. Not call girls and escort services. Like someone else stated - that is MUCH less riskier than finding someone in a bar or wherever to swoon, get drunk and get in their pants. Who knows if they have an std? Who knows if they're going to stalk you forever afterwards or turn out to be some psycho killer who stuffs your body in a storage drain that night? Hence all the negative scenarious that could play out from that compared to just getting a call girl who you know is std and disease free, is private, beautiful, fun, and will play out your dreams and fantasies with no strings attached. Hence WHY people pay good money for these girls or guys. If people want to dish out the money for that in replace of all the possible negative outcomes of just screwing random people - sounds safe and clean - the government should consider allowing escort services in the sex department to be legal. But still remain harsh on those on the street not safe...not clean, and doing it because they're junkies.
Dont get me wrong - its not like I feel this woman is a saint and completely innocent. Like others have remarked, I feel using her powers as a law enforcement officer for personal gain of any sort is not only illegal but immoral and she should be punished for that. But her so called 'second-life' or 'second-job'...I dont think is anyones business and dont think she should be punished for it considering the degree of difference between her and a street prostitute. NOT TO MENTION - I wonder which one of her police co-workers was the one to go on her agency's website looking for a call-girl themself and discovered her picture..."oopsies!". XD(aka - someone had to have gone on that website for the purpose of utilizing the agencies services and instead recognized her and had a field day with it - probably getting compensated for making it public) Its only a public issue now because it was MADE public and because shes a police officer. Granted I dont think she should be allowed to be a P.O anymore - but what the hell does it matter if shes a call girl?
*gasps for air* so yea...thats my opinion. lol
41My ex-wife cost me WAY MORE than I could possibly spend on prostitutes across my entire life span.
42Drug dealing is so much worse than prostitution. Yes, they are both illegal. But while drugs are illegal, sex isn't. So, while selling is illegal for both, on their own, only one is illegal, and therefore is worse. Still, I'm sure accessing police files is illegal too, and should be taken into consideration.
43Thats BS cause she is gettin paid for her time and if she chooses to "do" someone thats her business. Their is alot bigger problems in the world other than stupid s*** like this and look at all the political people and powerful pillars of society that get caught and get probation. NO different then her bein a cop and that should have no bearing on what she does on her own time.shes still a human and is finding the best means for her to survive. the porn industry brings in BILLIONS in tax dollars (THEY ARE GETTING PAID FOR SEX) this world is very very screwed up anymore. I would just like to add i would love to get with her when she gets out (LOL) dam shes hot!!! you go girl
44She used police info improperly. Guilty! Being a prostitute?....who cares? There are many legal vices far more dangerous than sex between two consenting adults.
45Prostitution is by far less damaging compared to Drug Dealing. But, she misused her police accessibility's for self gain. Now that I stop and think about it, isn't that what we are all trying to do, improve our standard of living by any means possible. Shure it should be legal, but hey, no ones perfect.
46You go girl
47Prostitution should be legalized. And women like her are the reason.
Was she forced into it? Probably not. Did she go into it because SHE wanted to? Presumably. Was she having fun and enjoying her night job? Since she didn't quit, I'm guessing so. Does she think it should be legalized? Fairly obviously. Did the company treat her well enough that she'd risk her other job to help it? Obviously.
Not all prostitutes are doing it against their will, and not all of them are controlled by abusive pimps. Legalizing it would make it safer for the prostitutes and make it so only the women who wanted to would do the work.
I don't think she should get more than 15 months because prostitution isn't really a crime if the woman (or man) doing it is doing it completely of free will. However, she should be punished for the riffling through the rival companies files and abusing her position as a police officer.
48And to quote the late George Carlin:
49"F-ing is legal, selling is legal. So why isn't selling f-ing legal!?"
Well, if it is illegal, then it is illegal. If she cannot make ends meet, I suggest she get into another field or line of work. She is still young enough to return to college. If she enjoys prostitution rather than doing it for the money, perhaps she should go into the entertainment industry.
