Were you aware that it is 9/9/09? Even if you're not, tens of thousands of Chinese couples will remember for you. They're all racing to get married today, because the number nine is supposed to be lucky. (In Chinese, the word for nine sounds a lot like the word for "forever.") And in Vegas, where nine doesn't sound like forever but some couples are getting married anyway? Maybe they just like the look of 9/9/09.

2I knew it was 9/9/09, I didn't know why it was lucky. I actually wanted to get married on 10/10/10, but I don't think I'll make it to the altar.
3I got married in 2007 and I remember everyone was trying to get married on 7/7/07 (lucky sevens). I remember thinking how crazy it was when I overheard a bride at a boutique saying her church was booked for two weddings in the afternoon and that she was going to have to do a morning ceremony now. The crazy things people do to have that date.
(I wonder if the chinese feel that children born on 9/9/09 are supposed to be extra lucky in life?)

5It's also ghost month so a lot of traditional and superstitious folks will not be getting married until after the mid-September when ghost month ends.
