I wonder how Kathleen Caronna feels. She's the NYC Upper East Side resident who suffered a skull fracture from a bizarre accident in the 1997 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Cat in The Hat float fell into a lamppost which landed on her head putting her in a twenty four day coma.
On Wednesday, Oct 11th, Kathleen was yet again, a victim of another random act. Her high-rise apartment was crashed into by an airplane flown by NY Yankees pitcher, Cory Lidle. Thankfully she was not home, however the engine landed in her bedroom and burned her apartment down.
It really makes you wonder when two random acts like this strike the same person. Do you believe in bad luck? Or do believe in fate?

OMG the poor woman. Not only are her experiences so awful, they're so public! That's just crazy.
I think most of what we consider to be fate or luck boils down to coincidence. I also think perspective has a lot to do with it. I think you can find one person who believes they are wrought with bad luck. And you can find another person who's lived the SAME life who believes they have good luck.
But I really don't know what to say about this woman.
1I would say, however, that I believe in karma - to an extent. Not as a mystical force, though. But, if you're good to people, they're good back to you a lot of the time.
But, there are too many total innocents and wonderful people who suffer horrible things and too many horrible people who have wonderful things for me to believe completely in something like karma.
2everything happens for a reason and I do very much believe in Karma...as I have said before Tori Spelling, Britney and Jessica Simpson are perfect examples of karmic retribution
3I believe in Karma to an extent, but sometime I think it's just a coincidence. She might be a really nice person, who knows! I'm not really sure what someone would have to do to "karmicly deserve" to be hit by a balloon or a runaway plane. But either way, what a crazy story! She must have lots of crazy stories for dinner parties!
4I believe in Karmel
5was she the sole survivor of some fatal accident? Cause you know death has a plan.. oh wait that was a movie and a book.
I guess if you look at it with glass half full percepctive..she is lucky that she wasn't killed on Thanksgiving and not home the other day.. maybe God/Angels/fate/luck is actually looking out for her..
ya never know.. life is weird and unpredictable.
6I heard this at work yesturday and was like, Nooo way, it can't be! I just feel so bad for her.
7we believe in caramel
8does this mean her apartment is available?
anyone got her agent's number?
upper east side though...
is that close to macys?
Whaaat?
9??????? Excuse me?????????????
WE are confused.
10are you with me la_clique? Herbiefrog, please explain your comment, I'm not sure what you're saying...
11It makes perfect sense to me.
12What do you think she's saying SPM? I might be mis-interpreting her comment...
13I'm lost on this whole thread.
14
15welcome to smallville*
16Her planet, HERS ..................HEEEEEEEEERSSSSS!!!1
17karmel vs karma? thats an age old question
18I guess I'm the only person that doesn't know what Karmel is
19hers or HERB?
20So what are we doing? Dissecting the Frog?
21or the frog's comments?
22oops. is herb a he? Sorry Herb
23Yes
24I think herbie wants to move into her apartment, and wants to know if it's close to macys, and the agent's number.
25That just sounds odd to me.
26i think it means that when moonshine is mixed with the "herb"...then you believe that caramel will solve all your problems and get you an apartment...
27Yes, that was the "herb" I was talking about, atox
28Duuh...I'm slow tonight!
29I really thought I knew what was going on, so am I still lost?
30I think herbiefrog likes to come along, make one comment, and then leave us all in utter chaos trying to figure out the hell it means.
31I think you are right.
32i believe in all of it. everything happens for a reason, my advice for this woman is to move as far away from new york as humanly possible, to a place where there are not any parades
33I see what you're saying jennav. I was reading his comments on his page and just felt like a huge
. And I thought it was my coke and rum messing with me,
34herbiefrogs comments remind of these weird emails i get that are just random ramblings.
35Herbie likes herb. I love it. I thought he might be trying for free verse poetry or haiku. Or maybe his meds are wearing off...
36This thread is hysterical. Btw., I like Ima's response to the question regarding this poll.
37I totally believe in fate- everything happens for a reason. Maybe she deserved it, maybe she didnt. Or maybe these bad things happened to her becuase a great outcome needed to come to her- and it took a bad thing to make it happen.
38I dont believe in fate.. i really think she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
39That's a good story for 9-1-1 dispatch, eh?
"9-1-1, what is your emergency?"
"Please, you have to send someone right away, my friend's been hurt!"
"Okay, what's the nature of the injury?"
"She...um, well...see, there was this...she was beaned on the head by a Cat-in-the-Hat balloon.
Hello? Hello? Are you sending someone?
Hello?"
40well if she was suposed to day in the parade flot she would have. when it's her time it's her time. but i wouldn't go as far as shes "cursed".

I can't decide if this woman has really bad luck or really good luck.

43there are clusters in any standard deviation. at least that is how medical "bad luck" has been explained to me by the professionals (notice i didn't say "experts"). so i guess that would apply here too.
44It's defenally f*ucked up what happened to her but I personally voted for maybe its not fate and probably she did something and like we all know karma is a b*tch but then again I do something believe in bad luck... Who knows!!!
45atox!! that's the funniest shizzzzzz I've heard in awhile....moonshine.......teehehehehe
46Anything can happen to anyone! Sometimes we're spared other times we're not we just have to be careful, hope for the best, and enjoy the time we do have.
47i belive in bad luck and karma and ghost and after life
48Bad luck definitely exists and goes after some people more than others. I have a friend who has worked for pretty much every retail chain that exists, every book store, toy store and grocery store. The longest he worked at any one place was 2 years and he lost his job there because someone who worked there was shoplifting so the manager fired them all to make sure he got the right one. That's the one job he was fired from, the rest he was either laid off, made redundant, the store closed, the entire chain went bankrupt, or his hours were so reduced he had to quit so he could find a better paying job. He has the worst luck imaginable.
