Despite the passing of the "lion of the Senate," the people of Massachusetts might soon have another Senator Kennedy at their service. Democratic leaders like Sen. Orrin Hatch and Sen. Chris Dodd think that Vicki Kennedy would be an appropriate replacement for her late husband Ted. Orrin said:
"She is a very brilliant lawyer. She's a very solid individual. She certainly made a difference in Ted's life, let me tell you. And I have nothing but respect for her."
It would be up to the voters ultimately to decide if Vicki has what it takes to serve them, but her legal training and experience witnessing her husband's career in the Senate might make her qualified to replace him temporarily.
Of course not everyone could just start doing their partner's job on the spot. An English teacher probably couldn't go to work as a computer engineer right away without some serious training. Could you do your partner's job if you had to? Feel free to apply the question to past relationships, too!

Oh my god, no. I'm a lawyer and he's a microbiologist.
1Could make for a very funny "Freaky-Friday" type scenario we switched places for a day, though...
2He has a PhD in Biology and uses it to defend pharmacognative patents. I design media. That would not go well.
3haha no way I teach 2nd grade and he's a financial advisor
4Um, if I would go out there and take a course on it, etc, perhaps..MAYBE. But no way I want it LOL.
5I'm a photographer, and he's a videogapher... so yes!
6No way. I'm terrible with doing stuff with my hands. I'm more of a desk job type of person. Manual labor is not for me.
7We're both teachers. So. yeah.
8Absolutely - we're both anthropology majors, and going to grad school for secondary education in history! =]
9Definitely not at first! He's a biochemist and I work in international affairs for a major film studio. Though there are times I wish I went into science since I find it more fascinating than what I do.
10Hell no. I work in a dental office and he's a grounds manager at a golf course. I could probably do his job if I really tried, but I think it's way too much manual labor for me and I wouldn't do a good job mowing straight lines anyway. He couldn't do my job in a million years because it's too gross for him. I'm the indoor girl and he's the outdoor guy and that's just how we like it.
11I doubt I'd do very well in law enforcement. Maybe on a slow day I could do the paper work, but if I had to deal with some of the people/things he does... I cry when people yell at me and panic in emergencies!
Could he do my job? All it really requires is stamina, a lot of physical labor, and attention to detail... I don't think he could keep up.
12I *could*, but I wouldn't be as awesome at it. Yay for meeting in freshman classes!
13I have no desire to be a aviation mechanic even for a day. He couldn't be a nurse since he nearly passes out seeing needles.
14He's studying to be a mechanical engineer, taking classes in calculus, physics, all sorts of other things I don't even know what the classes mean. I'm going into Business and PR. He could probably do my job, but aside from putzing with some stuff, I'm not the engineering type!
15I teach high school. He is a programmer. Nope!
16Two completely different skill sets, and definitely two completely different ideas of what's interesting in a job!
17I'm a lawyer and he works at a college rec center... we could probably do each other's jobs, but not v. well
18I'm a chef. He's a computer guy. He might be able to struggle through one of my days, but I'd crash the entire system in 2 minutes if I was behind his desk!
19I could but I got out of the retail field a long time ago because I couldn't stand it. I do inside sales stuff and I don't think he could do my job because he sees the type of stuff I do and gets confused. ha-ha even though he would love to sit around while working.
20No way.
21I'm an acoustics and vibration analysis professional engineer (masters in mechanical engineering), and she's a financial analyst (MBA in finance).
When I even begin to describe what I do at work, her eyes roll back in her head and her heart rate drops close to zero!
And my financial skills end with balancing a checkbook.
We're both in graphic arts. So, yeah, a swap could work.
22I dunno, at the moment probably. But once the two of us graduate uni, no way! I'm gonna be an ecologist and he'll be an IT expert!
23No way. He works with spreadsheets and ridiculous sums of money ... I draft and negotiate author's contracts.
24no way, my man does physical stuff...he's brawny, i use my brain...LOL it would never work out
25No - he's a tv journalist and I'm an environmental engineer. I could not talk with a non-regional accent/dialect, much less smoothly in front of camera (I could possibly write the script though). And he couldn't design a wastewater treatment plant (it took him six. months to catch on that lime isn't a fruit in my industry). He couldn't understand why we'd use "lime" to stabilize biosolids. He once asked me why not lemons!
26No way, my boyfriend is a flight instructor. It would take me years to be where he is right now!
27We are both in finance, so no problem. When we work at the same place it always helps both teams.
28hes a pharmacist, and ill graduate pharmacy school next year.. so ill say yeah i def can lol
29umm tres Orrin Hatch isn't a "democratic leader" he is a republican...
30I could probably do his job at the theater and library, and he could probably do my food service job better than I do. Though, I couldn't do his job writing for an ESPN MMA/Wrestling blog.
And he's studying journalism and I'm studying computer science. I don't think he's geeky enough for computer science, and I'm not nearly as good a writer as he is and I don't think I could be a journalist.
31My partner is training to be a fighter pilot in the US Navy, I wouldn't last 5 minutes
I work at a very fast paced fast food establishment, I don't think he could do my job, he couldn't handle the customers.
32I would like to clarify why I wouldn't last 5 minutes. 1) I get severe motion sickness walking
2) I would NEVER last at OCS (Officer Candidate School)... sleep and food deprivation paired with extreme exercise would send me to the
grave, 3) I don't like to fly, 4) I don't like to be yelled at/told what to do in the manner the military does it. I would cry if i was PMSing. 4) Asthma and reoccuring sinus headaches. Boo!
I'm actually a very strong person, but the military would be my downfall.
