At some point in our lives, even the plainest Jane among us has been called one (or more) of the above adjectives, usually by the men in our lives or by random dudes who just feel like sharing their opinions.

It can be confusing to figure out if there's a hierarchy (is it better to be beautiful or hot?), or if some terms overlap (does "cute" mean someone pretty whose personality is fetching, too?). You won't really get any coherent answers to that question, because, as we know, not all words mean the same things to different people, and, for example, not all men think "pretty" is better than "hot" or that "hot" is better than "cute."
But this isn't about deciphering the code of compliments, it's about spilling the beans about which one you get the most. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but after you answer, tell me how you feel about the compliment you get. Do you wish it were something else or do you wish men would stop labeling you?

Nudie Jeans
Polo Ralph Lauren
Velvet
My man calls me either vakker (beautiful) or søt (cute) =)
1been called all of the above
2I usually get cute from friends.. if guys are dating me I get "hot."
3People tell me I have pretty eyes and look "extra pretty" when I wear my hair down, whatever that means, but I've gotten them all except hot. Wonder why? hmmmm lol.
4My friends call me cute, my mother calls me pretty, my boyfriend calls me beautiful, and the boys and my little brothers high school call me hot.
I'm well rounded
5I've been called all of those.
6Beautiful. I'd love to get "hot" at some point, but am apparently too much of an "ice-princess".
7I have been called all three. The first time I ever respected a guy who came up to me and commented on my looks, he said "I hope you don't mind us looking, but we can't help but notice how absolutely beautiful you are". I was 16, and this guy was maybe 2 or 3 years older, and I thought "wow...no 'DAMNNN!' or equally disturbing gestures -- just telling me I am beautiful". I certainly like "beautiful" more. Pretty is generic, hot is kind of...odd to me, cute is generic, but beautiful is just nice.
8All FOUR. Obviously I can't count.
9i work in a bar, so obviously all of them haha... but generally speaking, pretty from girls and hot from guys.
10Been called all 4
11cute most of the time... beautiful the odd time
12i usually get either pretty or cute. i'd rather get either of those than hot, but beautiful wouldn't be bad =P
13I usually get a pretty cute.
Beautiful only from the significant other.
Been told I'd be beautiful if I lost weight by an ex. Well that was the comment that made him an ex.
14I've been all four - I'm mostly cute or pretty from girls, and beautiful or pretty from guys. Brunettes don't usually get called hot, I've notic ed.
15I have been called all 4, with cute being the least used.
16It depends on the look I'm rocking.
17I like that my boyfriend calls me beautiful and I like that he doesn't say it constantly. It means a lot more than the random guy who thinks I'm 'hot'.
18I mostly get beautiful, or sometimes hot.
No one calls me cute because I look much older than I am, and also because cuteness implies innocence.. so yeah. lol
I don't think I've ever had a girl call me hot.. they mostly say beautiful.
19What about gorgeous??
20I usually get cute or pretty, and gorgeous when I'm done up. I can't complain about that, can I???
i get called "cute" and it's really frustrating.
21I've been called all four (mostly by my husband, lol). But the word 'cute' has definitely been used the most when describing me. I think maybe it's b/c I'm short? No clue. Growing up I hated being called cute; I associated it with children and cartoon bunnies. But now I don't mind so much.
22mostly beautiful, also hot.
23I've also been called cute (I do have a sort of virginal, innocent side), sometimes the same day and with the same outfit in which I've been called hot, so I guess it depends on the person who says it.
The least I've been called is pretty, which I'm glad of, because to me pretty means "nice in a generic, not special way"
Cute...and I hate it.
24i've been called all four, but i love it when my bf tells me i'm beautiful
25Mostly I get beautiful followed by pretty followed by hot followed by cute. I guess cuz I'm tall people don't immediately think "cute"
26None. Oh well. Someone has to be the ugly one.
27I've been all four but the one I get the most is "cute". Must be because I'm petite and I look young...
28Beautiful the most, cute the least.
29All four. I think I get "pretty" most often. Sometimes I don't like getting "cute" because some girls seem to use it as a "consolation word" to keep your self esteem where they want it.
30all 4. I get cute and pretty the most - I especially hate being called cute by girls though. Because when they keep commenting and emphasizing how they think i'm cute, i can't help but to notice that there is some evil intent in their words and they're really trying to diss me.
31I always get cute. Oh you're cute, or adorable. It sometimes makes me feel really good, but occasionally it gets repetitive and may seem condescending. Although I do love that, sometimes I want to be beautiful. My boyfriend has called me that a few times and I get all flushed every time, since I really haven't been called that before. Though I guess that's what makes it all the more special.
32I get called "beautiful" quite a bit. I'm not sure why, though. I think that I'm cute (on a good day). I think beautiful in a purely aesthetic context describes, rare, remarkable beauty and near perfect facial features like Angelina Jolie or Tom Welling. IMO, most of the women in Hollywood would qualify as only pretty.
33Story of my life, always "cute" and "sweet".Not that I complain
34I have my man to call me gorgeous all the time so that's all that matters!
I've been called all of the above.
Unfortunately, my male students call me "hot" most of the time. Uncomfortable!
35I've been called all of the above.
due to my height, its all about being "cute"
36i've gotten called all four equal amounts of times by different guys. i remember this one guy always called me cute, and it bothered me because i thought it meant he wasn't attracted to me physically. then we started dating and i learned differently =)
37I would love to believe any of them, but I don't really feel I'm much more than average.
38Usually pretty or hot. I like it; it makes me feel good. I agree with darkangel that it takes something extra special to really be beautiful, and most people in Hollywood are pretty. Which definitely isn't bad.
39I'm much more cute/pretty than beautiful/hot.
40Same here -- all of the above. Hubbie says I'm a combination of all those qualities.
41I've been called all four. Mostly been called hot during middle and high school. Boys always thought I had a nice shaped body. The nice boys always called me cute. Now I get pretty, cute, beautiful, & hot.
I'd rather get beautiful most of the time instead of hot.
42I'm 5' 1" and turned fifty this year, so I'll take cute as a compliment.
43I've gotten cute, pretty, and beautiful, but I don't think I've ever once in my entire life been called "hot." I'm petite, slim, and have a small bust. People often tell me I look "like a doll." Hot = Not for me.
44Well, for most of my life I've gotten beautiful, a few hots, but mostly beautiful.
Even though I'm in high school, I've been told I look "sophisticated, elegant, regal" I'm tall for my age...
I don't act my age whatever that means and I've been told I'm intimidating so beautiful is what I get.
I do appreciate beautiful more than hot. I remember watching School of Rock and the principal being told that she was hot and she was like "No. Do you have a temperature? I'm quite cool" or whatever she said. I thought that was hilarious. I'd like to know what is considered hot, though...
45I've gotten all of those at some point and I hate being called "cute". I understand when it's like girl friends or my mom, grandma, etc. but when it's a guy I feel slightly belittled. I don't know why, it's probably just me. Cute is usually the top one for me. Then pretty, occassionally hot & once in a blue moon some nutter will call me beautiful.
46Mostly beautiful. I've gotten pretty and hot, too, but never cute.
47I guess it's because I'm tall, and I look 2 or 3 years older than I am.
I've been called all four, but of course in different contexts. In my experience, hot is usually referring to sex-appeal, or at least being lust-inspiring. Cute I get from my friends when were going out and I ask how I look, or from my mom. I used to get beautiful from serious admirers and now I get it from my boyfriend, or hot, depending. I don't usually get pretty because I'm a little too edgy.
48I've been called all of the above except hot. So, I don't really know what it would take for me to be considered hot.
49Usually random guys who just "share their opinion" call me beautiful, some of my friends call me either beautiful or cute, and my relatives call me either pretty or beautiful. I guess I should feel lucky but it really gets me wondering why I'm not considered as "hot" !
I've been called all of the above, but I don't like any of them. LOL. My favorite is "No words can describe how good you look right now" while he's staring into my eyes. *SIGH*
