I know you're not supposed to anthropomorphize, but this cat that recently adopted a pair of ducklings to replace her lost kittens is killin' me! Hiroko the cat's owner bought a pair of spot-billed duck eggs and brought them home. He shut Hiroko in with them by mistake, and they hatched while he was gone. Instead of seeing the expected when he returned--feathers everywhere and no chicks--he instead found Hiroko snuggling with them and gently grooming them. (I swear, this is not brought to you by Disney, but rather by a reputable news agency!)

I have an email somehwere with pics where a tiger was nursing and taking care of some
baby pigs (wrapped in some faux tiger skin) in place of her tiger cubs who died.
On a sniffly note, it makes me happy and sad at the same time to know that animals have the same sorts of feelings we do...from the depression, happy, feelings of loss, it's cool.
