This is extremely irresponsible and stupid on both parts. For men - it should NEVER be a badge of honor to have contacted an STD and women - if a guy gets upset that you ask him to use protection, then tell him to grow the f- up and show him the door.

I have never felt guilty or wrong for asking a guy to wear a condom. I can't imagine ever feeling that way. Also, that is pretty embarrassing to contract an STD, shame on them!

Why would that be proof of manhood. You don't have to have std's to have had sex. Wouldn't you be more of a man if you actually grew up and acted responsible enough to prevent them? Seriously, do they go around bragging about it? lol.

How does one rebel against an all-encompassing welfare state like the Swedish one, where somebody from the parliament or the ministry of health or the army always knows better than you do what's good for you or your family, chidren, pets, business, etc., etc.? Why by doing something unnecessarily difficult or dangerous or dumb, of course. Here in America, a Volvo driver is usually seen as a very left-leaning soul, but in sweden, Volvo is seen as a very conservative person's car. What car do the cool people in Sweden drive? Well, in the past Saab, but now that Saab's safety engineering has almost caught up with Volvo's, those are no longer cool cars either, and so you seeing young rebel hotshots driving everything from Peugeot convertibles to American and Japanese rust buckets that ought to come supplied with their very own funeral wreaths. In Sweden, you show that you're not stuck up by not caring whether you live or die, and it's all a symptom of an overbearing government that drives its own subjects mad by assuming all sorts of things that are none of its business somehow are.

This reminds me of those stupid teenage sluts who all had kids and intentionally got knocked up. What's next? Are children with deformities and serious birth defects going to become all the rage? I find it unsurprising yet eye-opening. We need to respect their honesty, for if people can't talk about it openly and comfortably without being judged and called stupid, they will NEVER CHANGE it. Awareness is key. These things SHOULD be addressed!

As an RN who works in an STD/HIV clinic it doesn't surprise me in the least. The numbers are staggering and the ignorance I see on a daily basis is astounding. Most parents don't teach their children a thing about sex or the human body and they certainly don't want anyone else teaching them. American kids are having sex, a lot of it, and they are having it very early.

It is a health issue when any type of std is contracted. It makes no young boy a man or young girl a woman. It is not surprising that this information discovered from a study in Sweden, another country of course.STDS are unhealthy and causes health concerns. The medications to treat most stds are costly. Of course, it is difficult for most people to live with STDS. Now the question is are these individuals mature enough to share this with their sexual partners. We must remember AIDS kills and thats the next step if one is not careful. Condoms are not safe although strongly encouraged to use during sex.

OK, to be for real, this is ridiculous. I would rather a guy carry a condom than not. Simply because I know he's using his head. STDs aren't a joke and should not be taken as one. I have a penicillin allergy and that pretty much puts me at risk for anything. So I would appreciate a guy who is more considerate.

As a male, I am constantly confounded by what's considered "manly"in our world. STD's, treating women like trash, and fighting at the drop of a hat to prove your "manhood"? Please.

Stds make you cool unless it's aids. Herpes is the one std that will make your social life far more active, and you will suddenly find yourself rock climbing and hitting the gym more often.

I find this sad. An unfortunate side effect of the gender expectations society places on us. Men that are so desperate to live up to an accepted form of masculinity that they're willing to employ a disease as proof of their sexual virility? It might be that their female counterparts would feel the same if girls were not thought to reject their sexuality. So, thank God for that, I guess; at least they're not all for spreading Chlamydia.

Weird, weird, weird. I've had my share of exploits, and it never bothered me to use a condom if the lady asked or we simply needed to. An STD to me is mind blowing, almost gets me running down the halls screaming, & is the LAST thing I ever want in the relationship department.
