Forbes released its annual list of the world's 100 most powerful women this week. Taking the number one spot for the fourth year in a row is German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the leader of the world's fourth largest economy. Female CEOs and political leaders also made the list that included Melinda Gates (number 34), Hillary Clinton (number 36), and Michelle Obama (number 40).
Of course, you don't have to be a conventionally powerful person to make a big impact. Of all the women I know, I'd say my wise and patient mother has had the most positive influence on my life. What about you? What woman has influenced your life the most?

hands down my mother. although shes done things that arent exactly right or perfect, I understand that they were her choices and she had to do what was right for her, even though its might not be something everyone would approve of. in many ways I am just like my mom, I am an only child so my whole life shes been more of a friend to me even though she knew she should be more stern like a mother is suppossed to be i never gave her much trouble. I think she did an excellent job in raising me, even with the flaws theres nothing she wouldnt do for me, and i dont think theres more you can ask for than that.
1yup, my mother - for better or for worse
2Same here -- my Mom. She's nutty.
3Paris Hilton.
4Just kidding.
My mom is most influential. Whether it's always positive or not... I love her anyway.
Mom. Without question. Definitely not some random celebrity.
5I love my Mom, and the older I get, the better I understand her, but I wouldn't say she's been the most influential woman in my life. Honestly, I can't name a woman who has been the most influential in my life. I have more men in my life who have influenced me than women. Maybe I'm the most influential woman in my life? Who knows.
6definitely MY MOM. she's the best
7hahahahaha Pistil
8My mom
9I look up to my mom of course. But I often look up to artists who persevere over mundane life or even bad circumstances to later become famous. Anyone from Tina Turner to a writer like Maya Angelou. Even in hollywood, women like Oprah or stars like Charlize Teron are women to look up to. Plus also I think about everyday heroes, like our teachers, our police, and doctors who help people daily. Women like that should be admired as well.
10i'm going to be hated on here, but mom (or mother figure, like 'grandma who raised me' or 'big sister') is the obvious one. duh. what other female is around us so much and so involved in our lives from the moment we're born onwards?
i have, what i call, career idols. women in workplaces or school who embody who i want to be when i'm older - i had a professor who is a multiple-chair at columbia and is happily married with 2 kids. she's a career idol in her balance. another is this senior economist at my previous job who had an amazing way of rolling with the big dogs (and when i say big dogs i mean, heads of state, financial gurus, etc., most of whom literally towered over her 5' self). she kept her composure and sense of self-worth. however (and this impressed me the most) she still was very normal, nice, and generous to us junior economists. she walked that fine line of being friendly but still maintaining our respect for her. tough for a woman in that field.
11Is very cliche but my mom. She is the strongest woman I had ever met. She has gone through so much and always manged to come out of them with a sense of dignity and strength that is admirable. She is the perfect mother. She had thought me to be strong and to love myself. My mom is my everything and if I'm half of the woman that she is I'll be more than happy.
12My older sister who raised me to be the woman I am and is a military wife and is the bravest woman I know and the best mother!!!!
