Researchers have concluded that how you perceive time – either actively or passively — can reveal whether you are quick to anger or tend to be placid.

In one test, they asked participants if they were told a Wednesday meeting were moved forward two days, which day would it now be on? Those who said Friday, according to researchers, saw themselves as moving through time (in other words, actively) and were more likely to get angry easily. Those who said Monday were more passive and saw time moving toward them.
In another iteration of the study, the new appointment was either anger-provoking or neutral. If participants were told the new day was the anger-provoking one, they were more likely to describe themselves as moving toward it.
I dunno about this one. I mean, yes, I kind of have a short fuse, but I also value being active rather than passive. What do you think about this study or about studies like this in general?

forward would mean friday and nothing else. monday wouldnt be forward it would be the meeting moving BACK two days.
1I thought it meant Monday. Moving it back sounds like delaying it - so moving it forward sounds like making it earlier.
2That said, "what do you think about these types of studies?" I think they're grasping at straws to find relationships.
i think it would be monday.
3I thought Monday right away, as well.
And I think studies like this can be interesting, but not particularly meaningful.
4I agree with CaterpillarGirl. The way the sentence was phrased I thought Friday as well.
With that said, if the sentence was phrased differently, I would have thought something else. "Pushing back" a meeting for two days would mean Friday, too (to me). "Moving up" a meeting for two days would mean Monday (to me). It depends on the phrase, I think.
5Interesting. I thought Friday, and yes, I guess I have a bit of a short temper.
6I thought Friday. In fact, I stared at that sentence for a full minute trying to figure out how it could possibly be Monday.
7"In fact, I stared at that sentence for a full minute trying to figure out how it could possibly be Monday. "
Funny, I did the same thing, except I was trying to figure out how it could be Friday. I don't really see much value in this study, however.
8I was surprised to read responses because I was so certain it was Monday and not Friday. I don't think studies like this mean much about a person's perception of time or whatever they are trying to prove, but mostly how people should phrase things so it's clear when the meeting is haha!
9i thought monday. forward to me means earlier, not pushed back. the study seems to have some relevance, i'm pretty lax about time. and i wouldn't be angry if something was moved up a few days, which is odd, wouldn't you expect that to be more stressful, less time to prepare, etc? while apparently some people would see pushing forward as two days later, and would actually be annoyed at being given two extra days to prep. odd. interesting for sure.
10Seems more to be a study on how you view different phrases. I know I've heard that us Wisconsinites will say on Tuesday "next weekend" and not refer to the one coming up in a couple days, but the one in a week and a half. I dunno, doesn't seem accurate to me really. I did say Monday, and I feel like time is moving around me, but that actually makes me angry, not passive about it.
11Definitely Monday. When you bring (or move) something forward, you make it earlier. Backwards obviously means that it would then be later. I'm actually surprised by the amount of people that would even think that the meeting would be on Friday.
12I'm surprised at the different views, shows how little I can think outside of the box. I still think forward=future, but thank God I didn't get this memo. I'd totally miss the meeting.
13I thought that meant the meeting was on Monday and it couldn't mean anything else. Guess I'm wrong.
14No TresSugar, I don't pay too much attention to studies like this one.
15I thought it meant Friday. I didn't think of forward as in earlier or later, i thought forward, as in on my calender it will be moved forward two days, which would land on Friday. And i don't think i'm angry, in fact i'm the quite one at my work that stays out of it all. I work on their computers while they get angry lol.
