It's really amazing to me to watch the level of Republican malevolence right now. The racially-motivated birther movement, carrying guns to protest health-care reform, painting Nazi symbols on public buildings - they just seem insanely angry to me.

I can't help but think they are making the party seem even more divorced from reality.

while I like the posters for school lunches, I agree with many in the article that the president's children should be off-limits. they're private citizens.

I think we can all agree that the passion and concern behind these town hall questions are fine but it's the delivery that most people are uncomfortable with. There is absolutely no reason you can't get your point out with out hijacking a meeting and taking up close to half an hour by getting every one riled.

we had angry protesters on the freeway exit today with signs reading "OBAMACARE will kill us all". the protesters were all senior citizens and waving their signs at cars and screaming about their cause. the house on that corner has had a giant sign in the yard for about 2 weeks now that just says "NO". guess it's about health care.

i think what they don't understand is that a certain segment of the population already has free health care. the uninsured poor go to the ER when their children are sick and by law cannot be turned away. so they get free medical care at tax payer expense. but it costs us 3 times as much as it should because its at a hospital rather than a clinic.

i think everyone needs a basic health care policy, it's time for national health care coverage.

I always look at these people and think "You don't want people to have health care? WHY? You'd rather have your taxes go towards war and arms, but God forbid the poor can go to the Dr. without going bankrupt." Basic healthcare for everyone is one of the things that seperate us from the animals in my book!

The problem with the elderly is they are often the least educated, most conservative, and least accepting of any change, regardless of what the issue is. This is becoming an issue because with such a larger elderly population, that just continues to grow and age since people are living longer, they are preventing the nation as a whole from moving forward. They are afraid of change and because there are so many new concepts out there they don't understand (or they are senile), they fight everything. How often do you hear of elderly fighting against abortion rights? My question is what 80 year old is going to need an abortion and have to make that decision - hence they shouldn't really be opposing something that has no effect on them. They're only concern is with themselves and their coverage, they don't care about the young married couple who is struggling to pay their health insurance costs for their two young children and don't have a lifetime of savings to get by on.

I've been to town meetings regarding water/wastewater issues and the elderly are always clueless and cling to whatever idea they have in their head and it's nearly impossible to educate them on something they already have their mind dead-set against. Since when is it okay to behave in a bad way just because you are old? And yet demand respect because of your age? Ugh....this is a sore subject for me.
