"You want me to tell you what my husband thinks? My husband is not secretary of state, I am. If you want my opinion, I will tell you my opinion. I am not going to be channeling my husband."
— Still on her trip to Africa yesterday, Hillary Clinton responded to a Congolese student who asked for her husband's opinion on an international policy matter. Don't worry Hillary, Bill's North Korea rescue mission last week didn't make us forget that you're still working hard as secretary of state.
Update: Apparently the Congolese student's question got lost in translation. The student told Hillary after the event that he had asked what President Obama thought, but the translator misquoted him as asking about Bill.

Well, I can understand the question, because obviously he was president. However, I think she was right to be kind of defensive. She knows Bill was the president and is trying to stray from being wife of the president to the secretary of state.
1Shows what she is made of. which isnt good stuff. she needs to find some Grace and poise.
2LOL
3Cringe
4I think she just went a little too far with snapping back like that.
5are you serious? she needs "grace"? if someone asked President Obama what Michelle thought about war, healthcare, taxes, it would be as ridiculous a question. it insults Secretary Clinton when people (A) address her as "Mrs. Clinton" (B) completely disregard the fact that she is the public servant, her husband is currently a private citizen.
6i thunk its just rude that someone asked her that when she was taking time to talk to students
7uh, can you blame her for spazzing out like that? i would be mad too if everywhere i went, my husband was the topic of choice, she deserves to not be compared to him so much, they're too different people
8Mama, Michelle wasnt once the president. Hillary HAS to expect these kinds of questions if Bill is to continue to be in the national spotlight.
9I admit she could have been a teensy bit more diplomatic, but she has a point. She's an accomplished woman with her own brain and her opinion matters.
10When your husband is the BJ posterchild for the world, and you are his wife, you are going to always play second fiddle to his "accomplishments"
11CaterpillarGirl, don't you think its unfair that Hillary should "expect" questions about her husband and his opinions? I think it totally sucks. SHE is the Secretary of State, and she has every right to be annoyed if someone is asking her about anyone else's opinion.
12Sexism is to be expected, but it shouldn't be tolerated or liked.
13I don't agree with the snappy comeback but I do understand what she means-
14It was a sexist question and she was standing up for all women. I'm proud of her.
The latest news of her in Congo is that she's speaking out against all the sexual violence there.

15This is the same woman that ruminated that Obama could be assassinated and she could still win the nomination. This is the same woman that invented stories about being under sniper fire in Serbia, which was total fiction. She's prone to these kinds of remarks that come off as self-serving and b!tchy.
I have to agree with CaterpillarGirl.
16That question touched a nerve. Truthfully, I have compassion for her. I could understand why she was offended.
With that said, I think it would have been better if she showed some restraint. But she's human, after all. I'm certain everybody has been in her shoes -- upset by an unexpected, sensitive question.
17I loved the way she handled it, and this is coming from someone who isn't always Hillary's number-one fan. The question was sexist.
18I think this is just more of showing her true colors. Nasty!!
19It was a stupid question to ask. She is not her husband and I think shes human and wants to be acknowledged for her opinion. Go Hillary!!!
20Maybe it was a little feisty, but maybe somebody will think twice next time before asking her what her husband thinks. Good answer.
21awesome
i love it!
but then i do appreciate people who put it all out there w/o any sugar coating BS
22She's the nation's chief diplomat. She seriously couldn't have made this (very valid point) a little more politely?
23"When your husband is the BJ posterchild for the world, and you are his wife, you are going to always play second fiddle to his "accomplishments""
A stunning example of grace and poise.
24the question was misquoted by the translator though. Poor kid, probably didn't even realize why she got so mad at his question!
