Charging for online newspapers? They've been trying that for a while. The source is always going to be available elsewhere, so what's the point?
1Murdoch is the devil.
2What he really needs to do is to go after blogs which abuse the idea of quoting practically the whole article while only supplying a tiny portion of their opinion to make up what is essentially their content, and then provide a hard to notice link to the original source at the very end.
Of course by the time anyone reaches the end, there's little need to go to the original source anymore. Thereby keeping the traffic still on their blogs off of other people's hard work, and in many ways stealing traffic from the original source. Blogs are an easy win at the moment, you don't have to pay the real professional journalist for their work, much of the content can be uploaded by a small staff or by the owner alone, and most of the visitors are kept occupied with the commenting system.
The idea that Blogs are the new source of journalism is pure BS.
