Crocs have been famously derided as the ugliest shoe on the planet, but I would argue that the Vibram Five Finger Flow shoes, made to contour individual toes, give Crocs a run for their money. What do you think?

You know, the Vibram 5-fingers are not that pretty to look at, but they are seriously the most comfortable things for your feet. I spend a ton of time outdoors, and had a chance to try these on at a gear shop. It took a little effort to get them on but once they're on they just cradle your feet. The bottoms are super-grippy and they allow the bones in your feet to relax. They also help develop muscles in your feet and calves when you wear them. I am planning on getting a pair for backpacking (as my camp shoes) and yoga, but I have seen guys wearing them to work, grocery shopping, and around town. I am seriously in love with them, despite their less-attractive style. I'd also like to mention that they make different styles and colors, which you can check out on their website: www.vibramfivefingers.com
1the crocs for sure. thank goodness that company is going under!
2if you wear either of these shoes, you are a visual terrorist.
3I actually like crocs. They are comfy and I don't think they're actually THAT ugly.
4I agree with spacekatgal. My boyfriend and I constantly mock people wearing either shoe. There are other comfortable shoes out there that don't make you look like you ride the short bus
5Yeah, filmgirl.
They are really bad and cannot be justified.
I am over six feet tall, and the only time I don't wear heels is to the gym. Finding shoes that are both cute and comfortable is a fun challenge! You can always wear boots if you know you're going to be walking.
Shoes are part of what's fun about being a woman!
6beth, they are That ugly!
7The Vibram shoe might be ugly, but atleast they arent terrible for you. Crocs are horrible for your back. They are to wide around the foot and therefore don't hold you in well. Shoes should be flush to the foot for them to be a healthy choice for footwear. All these kids I see wearing them nonstop could have serious issues later.
8Eeeeeeewwww! They are both hideous but the 5 Finger Flows at least have a shape. Crocs are big and sloppy looking. They aren't flattering on anyone.
9I've heard such great things about the Vibrams (basically its like being barefoot without the dangers of being barefoot). I know tons of people that use them for outdoor activities and swear by them. i would (and want to) get a pair myself.
10They develop muscles in your feet, ankles and calves that normally don't get much use in regular padded shoes/boots. I wouldn't wear them daily if I'm out with friends, but I wouldn't wear sneakers when out with friends either.
I've wanted a pair of vibrams for a while, but they aren't made for my toes.
11@ Smacks: LOL, glad to see someone else likes the Vibrams too - I thought I was doomed to being a visual terrorist riding the short bus alone.
12Both those shoes are unflattering. However, I must admit I'm curious to try on the Vibram. I wonder how it feels.
When it comes to my shoes, comfort and style must go hand-in-hand. I want my feet to feel good AND look good. It is possible, but shoes like that are hard to come by (especially for me, as I have wide feet).
13I don't know. Crocs just look like rubber clogs, but those other things look like gorilla feet. It's a toss up.
14I think Crocs (or their imitators) are pretty ugly, but those Vibram shoes took it to a whole new level of ugly shoes!
15I cant decide..theyre both pretty fug.
16I can't talk smack about the Five Toes ... they are the most freaking comfortable shoes I've ever tried. Plus, they are so much better than other athletic shoes I've tried. My boyfriend has started running in them, and we went to Central Park and he said that walking on the grass versus the concrete was the coolest feeling.
I wouldn't be caught in Crocs.
17I gave in last year and bought crocs to wear around DisneyWorld. They were so amazingly comfortable to wear while walking around the parks all day. I rarely ever wear them now ... sometimes in the garden.
18Those other things though .... they are just too hideous for words.
EarthGoddess, looks like its you, me and BengalSpice in our own bus off to visual terrorist training, lol!!
I actually only found out about these from MarksDailyApple.com (Yumsugar used to do a lot of links with that site).
19The vibram shoes are uglier but they seem to be a lot more comfortable than the crocs. I haven't worn any of them though -- nor I plan to.
20That's totally crazy, my boy and I saw a guy wearing the Vibram shoes this weekend @ Six Flags! I thought they were completely awesome. Crocs, however, are heinous. My mom gardens in them, and my 3 year old niece has disney princess crocs..they're still ugly.
21crocs had a 100 million dollar loss this quarter and it keeps dropping, when you make shoes and sell them as "indestructable" people arent going to keep buying them because they dont have to replace them!
22They're just shoes, and if they are comfortable, wear them. Who cares what people think about you. I don't think I'd wear them, but only because I have flat feet and it's taken me a loooong time to find shoes, and find a way to keep them lasting, and from making my feet hurt like hell. They are not aesthetically pleasing, but there is way more to life than being concerned about what does or does not look good to people.
My mom wears crocs at work, she is a nurse, so she is always on her feet. She loves them. I know someone with the Five Finger shoes and he thinks they are awesome...so he wears them at the gym and running outside.
23The Vibrams are hideous, but... I've been thinking of buying a pair. DON'T JUDGE ME. I hear they're super comfortable and healthy for your feet. I'd probably wear them only at home, though.
24I LOVE my Crocs! And I don't think their ugly at all.
25i find crocs cute
26the first time i ever saw them, a cute little waitress was wearing them with a short denim skirt and tank on a hot day
in bright colors, they're really adorable
bella lost credibility points from me. If fab owns a pair of either shoe....well, I don't even want to entertain that thought
27I have three pairs of the Vibrams and *love* the way they look. My peanut toes have elongated since I've begun to wear them and my feet feel more toned.
More disclosure: I have two pairs of MBTs. No crocs but mostly because I heard they caused problems for the feet and back.
28GO FOR IT BELLA!
They are awesome to run in ... don't confine them to the house!
29The Vibram five fingers are awesome....and they aren't made for just wearing around in public or the house anyway. They are actually for sports and are supposed to make you feet/legs stronger, improve your balance etc. and to generally make it like your running around barefoot. So if you're at home you shouldn't even wear them, just go barefoot, that's the whole point... they are just to give you some protection instead of trying to run around barefoot outside. I really really want some, they are awesome! And I totally don't think they are ugly at all, I think they look cool!
I do think crocs are ugly though, and kind of dumb b/c you can't really walk very well in them....just think if you had to run away from a bad guy...forget that...you would be attacked.
30The croc flip flops are comfortable. I don't like these intense, covered crocs.
People who are saying stuff like 'I'd never be caught dead in that' or 'I always wear heels!' have obviously never have podiatry problems.
31Hideous hideous Crocs. I feel like the Vibrams aren't nearly as prevalent, and thus aren't as offensive to me.
32the vibrams would make sense if you were doing some outdoor activities but i woudln't exactly be walking around the mall in them
33Oh my gosh! I saw someone wearing those Vibram shoes the other day and I had no idea what they were. I thought the guy thought he was at the beach or something.
34Crocs are so hideous. And I doubt the majority of people who own them have podiatric problems, otherwise that would be a whole heck of a lot of the population. If you've got issues, try Danskos.
35I know quite a few runners who have the Vibrams and love them. If you do decide to run in them, though, BE CAREFUL --- your feet need time to adjust.
36Crocs are awful, unless they are part of your work uniform, but those Vibrams look as though you've cut the feet off a gorilla. Fug.
37I think the ones who dislike Crocs is because never wear them... after a hard day Those are heaven
38I LOVE Crocs!! I'm a teacher, so being on my feet everyday-- I need some comfy shoes! My students make fun of them on a constant basis; I have several colors of Crocs. And again, I love them. Those haters have no idea what they're talking about.
39I love my Crocs, but they're quite ugly, so I usually only wear them to the gym. I used to wear them around the pool during swim season as well, and now I want to try a pair of the Vibrams. I'd say Crocs can be justified because they are really comfortable.
40I wouldn't wear either, but I'm not going to slag off people who like to wear them
41I own both crocs and vibrams and enjoy them both. I wear both as often as I can and my feet legs and knees are better for it. If you have that much time to sit there and think about how ugly you think crocs or vibrams are and you need to make fun of those who like them enough to spend their own money on them then you really need to get a life. If you sent as much time worrying about your own stuff you might not have time to do dog other people out on what they choose to wear on their feet.
42i made it to the summit of mt elbert in colorado last week. it is the highest point in all the rocky mountains and second highest peak in the 48 states. i wore my fivefingers for the entire time up and down the mountain. let's see anyone attempt that in their crocs.
43OMG. Those feet glove things are hideous/hilarious. Maybe you could use them on Halloween and scare someone. Ha ha ha. You wouldn't catch me dead in those things. As a joke I would wear them with a nice dress on a first date. Just when he reaches his hand to your lap you you cross your legs and then your big monkey feet Vibram sticks out. He retracts his hand and screams in terror. The Crocs are ugly but those Vibrams take the cake.
44I have owned and bought my son crocs in the past and found them to be very comfortable and convenient for throwing on and off whilst dashing around doing my daily chores! Yes they're not particularly attractive but my son loved going in the sea with them and sticking them in the washing machine was easy when we'd had a hectic dirty day out somewhere.
45Although I now have a pair of Five fingers and let me tell you.....there is nothing more comfortable.....I will never ever ever not own a pair of five fingers. They are like gloves. They give fantastic grip and posture and you barely feel like you're wearing anything until someone points them out! They are the marmite of the shoe world. You either love them or hate them but i challenge all the haters to try a pair on. You will be amazed x
The vibrams are much better for your feet than normally shoes. Ignorance and sanctimonious attitudes trully are bliss.
