As of yesterday, patrons of alcohol serving establishments in Arizona and Tennessee can exercise their second amendment rights while downing a cold one. How . . . American.
The new laws allowing registered gun owners to carry concealed guns into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol are part of a trend of loosened gun control laws. Ironically, right after the election last November, gun shop owners reported record sales, suspecting that customers feared that a Democratic federal government could curtail the right to bear arms.
Complaints by Arizona and Tennessee's business owners that the new law would hurt business went unaddressed. (Hurt how you ask? You know, when "1 or 2% of would-be Dirty Harrys," as one restaurant owner plaintiff put it, decided to mete out vigilante justice.) As for critics who point to recent public shootings, proponents of the new laws say that the violence shows the need for private citizens to protect themselves with firearms.

1This just screams AWFUL idea.
2I'm an Arizona native and I'm not scared. First, Arizona crime rate has significantly dropped, mostly likely due to the fact we enforce immigration laws and have the badass Sheriff Joe. Two, if you know anyone with a concealed weapons permit (which you probably don't) you would know that they cannot go into any restaurant with a bar if they're carrying. I trust the people with CCWs more than I do with people who are just carrying that's who need worry about because they're not as easily traceable.
3I read another article that says that it would be illegal to consume alcohol while having a gun under this law. People actually thought that was good justification, but seem to forget that though it's illegal to drink and drive, plenty of people do it anyway.

BAD!!! WTF!? Why would a lawmaker even consider this law? I can kinda see the "less bar fights" idea, but... who ever said drunk people are smart and actually think?
My campus is right next to a bar. The area around the bar on campus is dangerous. One of my friends almost got mugged/abducted/raped near the graveyard (luckily she broke the guy's nose), and that area is known as bad news after dark. I can't fathom to think how much worse it would be if they had guns.
And drunk people are probably more likely to use them for stupid stuff as it is. My dad thought keeping a butterfly knife in his sock was a good idea when he was drunk (turns out, they open when in socks). I don't even want to think about what drunk people will think is cool to do with guns.
Thank goodness Oregon is liberal and sane where it counts...
