Swearing when you stub your toe might take the pain away according to a new study, but it could also make you come off as less than classy. Some people find cursing to be vulgar and "unbecoming to a lady."
I'll admit that sometimes I'll utter a "bad word," depending on who I'm with and the message I'm trying to get across (like humor or disappointment). And I do have some friends who lace even the most perfunctory sentences with profanity — but since it's part of who they are, I barely even notice!

If I get scared I usually curse but only briefly. In mixed company I never swear and once in a while I will say something but only to convey a point. i feel like it lowers people's respect for you if you curse. Just my opinion.
1Only around friends or family, or when I feel the *need* to use it.
Like, in college, when something was said in a lesson that made no sense at all logically or was just kind of stupid, I have been known to say "that's bulls*it" and things of that nature. It's not like I go around saying "I'm gonna kick your f*cking ass, you little monkey f*cker. I'm sending to straight to f*cking hell in a f*cking handbasket". That's overkill.
2yah i'm bad for swearing
3like the f word precedes a lot of words in my vocabulary
me too ski girl! but not as often as the references chrstne said
4I used to cuss like a sailor. I have toned down some but there are situations where swear words are the only accurate words to convey what I am feeling
5Yes. And a lot!
6Yah, too much.
7i don't cuss very much. occasionally i will say sh*t, but that's only when i make a mistake like failing a test or something. most of my family and friends don't cuss but there are a few who cuss like a sailor.
8Well, as I've told people for years, my Dad messed up when I was 10. He started regularly taking me to the comedy club where he preformed. Before we went, he told me that they were all words and they couldn't hurt anyone. Since then, I've been cussing up a storm and loving it because they're just words, but they're extra fun to say words.
9As a linguist, I love any and all words and use them frequently. Expletives are definitely some of my favorites, though!
10I totally effing swear
but make a point to not swear in front of children or much
older people as I think it is disrespectful
11I do, and I am trying to cut back.
12I only swear when I hurt myself, actually. That study made laugh, because it does help!
I don't really swear in day-to-day life, not because I think it's "so bad", I just don't see a reason to...
13I do. Wish I didn't.
14I'm an army wife though, and the soldiers probably use more swear words than non-swear words in an average sentence.
Occasionally, especially when I'm describing something I don't like. I don't like swearing, though. I find the words ugly and vulgar. Instead of using swear words, I try to challenge myself to use more descriptive (and appropriate) vocabulary words.
15I do, but only when needs be. (Like if I hurt myself)
But I HATE it when people swear just for the sake of swearing and when people say f*ck before every word in their sentance.
16I swear occasionally, but usually only if I'm very angry, hurt, or if I want my point to be very strong. eg. I rarely call others "b*tch" or "b*stard* even if they are sucky people, I reserve that for people who REALLY earn it. I swear rarely so that when I do it conveys the strong message it was meant to. If you over use it it will lose it's ability to convey the strongest of the message.
17However, I'll never use it in class, at work, or around friends I know are sensitive to it.
Yup, I curse. I grew up in a house where we lived by the words sticks and stones will break my bones but words can never hurt me. I have always known when to hold my tongue. Cursing is def offensive and it does make you sound stupid. So I save my curses for friends and family and inanimate objects. Oh, and for road rage of course.
18I do! I hate the fact that we have alternative words that mean the same thing that are allowed, but for some reason, someone banned these special words. Who made these stupid rules in the first place?! You can say crap, but not Sh**. Means the same thing. I'll say almost any swear word, only because i don't agree with their reason they're bad. The only words i refrain from are any racial or prejudicial phrases. I also try not to swear at work, but other than that, it's a form of expression.
19Nope! It will take people awhile to notice and then they'll ask, "You don't swear do you?" I just think there are enough other ways to get your point across with reverting back to it. That being said, I don't care what other people choose to do.
20*without reverting back to it
21I have a bit of a potty mouth, but I mostly keep it to myself. I keep my language clean when I'm around family and co-workers.
Even though I have no problem dropping f-bombs when I feel the occasion calls for it, I don't like hearing it as much.
22Is a frog's ass watertight?
23Only in private.
24I don't care if it is vulgar. I swear all the f***** time. Haha.
25But not in front of children.
26I rarely swear. When I do, I'm usually frustrated or mad, and the swearing is directed at myself or at the situation.
27Not that often. I've grown out of it for the most part. I'll think it for sure, but I keep it to myself mostly.
28I don't swear THAT much in my daily speech, but I probably swear about once a day.
29Are you kidding me, I swear like a mother f*cker!!
30I was the last of my friends in high school to stop swearing, but as an adult I've made up for it by swearing way too much. It's a hard habit to break, especially since certain words are just so... descriptive. I definitely want to cut back on the f-word... the rest don't bother me too much.
31Almost never. But there was a girl on my swim team whose mom came in a swore at the coach and made her cry. It was right before a meet was about to start and it set us back a few minutes. Her daughter was ineligible and she took it out on the coach. Talk about distasteful.
32Yup, very frequently.
33Where is the "sometimes, but I don't like it" button? Thank goodness I'm usually by myself but the other day I was on my cell phone w/ a friend & a guy on a motorcycle cut right in front of me. I called him a bad name. My friend was shocked. LOL So was I, sort of....
34I swear all the time. I never used to swear a lot until I got my current job. But I never swear in front of children, when in polite company or serving customers at work. I don't want my bad language rubbing off on kids, or insulting people who don't want to hear it.
However when with family, friends or alone, I let rip and have put marines to shame.
35I have a bit of a potty mouth, I can admit, but I know when it's inappropriate also.
36I swear a lot, I think! I need to stop.
37It's not that I find it tasteless, I just don't swear. I have other ways to express myself.
38im in good motherf*ckin company! seriously im really bad wish i wasnt but its so ingrained i dont even realize it
39I swear all the time when I'm around people who I know don't mind/care. Like, I just got back from Mayhem Festival (a metal music fest featuring big-name bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Kill Switch Engage, Slayer, and Marilyn Manson this year)... and I sore all the f*cking time there. However, around my parents, I don't swear other than the occasional word to get a point across. And I swear a lot in rants to vent (like when my boyfriend and I were leaving the concert, and had to turn left to get to our hotel, but instead were confronted with the WEIRDEST detours and police blocks that had us driving in circles for an hour and a half).
