Birth Place: The Birth Order-Personality Connection
Only Child
The only child is like the oldest on speed. They have the ambition and smarts of the firstborn, but they get all of their parents' attention and heavy expectations.
Only children tend to get along well with adults and be close to their parents. Not surprisingly, the Wikipedia page of multilingual Harvard grad, perpetual do-gooder, actress, producer, director, and writer Natalie Portman says she's "very close to her parents."

My parents never had too heavy expectations and I'm not sure I'm ambitious so much as lucky that everything seems to work out for me. But that's true that I'm very close to my parents even now that I'm out of the home.
1haha... i don't like to put too much weight on birth-order stereotypes... but i'm an only child and identify 100% with most generalizations about only children.
2Describes me perfectly!
3I am very much like the description(s) of an only child. Though my parent's never weighed me down with heavy expectations, I did that all to myself. In certain aspects of my life, I am a perfectionist.
