Men are so lucky. Although there seem to be very narrow standards for what is considered beautiful for women, men can be considered hot in a million ways. Take the ugly hot guy. He's no Brad Pitt or George Clooney. In fact, compared to them, you might even say he got hit with the ugly stick.
The French understand the concept of ugly hot better than we do; their word jolie-laide (literal meaning: pretty/ugly) describes unconventionally beautiful women. They may have big noses, strange teeth, tiny eyes, but whatever it is, the combination produces a sort of je ne sais quoi sexiness. Men may desire the PYT, but some of us women prefer the more interesting UHG. Who's your favorite ugly hot guy?

27I love Adrien, Javier, Benicio and several other people who might be considered "ugly" by mainstream Hollywood but are far sexier and more attractive than the likes of Zach Efron, Robert Pattinson and the rest of the pretty boys.
28What a shame that a guy can become successful even if he's not great looking as long as he has charm and charisma, but women still have to be classically beautiful to be noticed in Hollywood. No room for imperfections where women are considered!

32i get it.. these guys are by no means ugly, they are just a little rugged/paunchy/careworn by hollywood standards. and i even sort of get whoever said johnny depp in that i never saw his appeal when i was younger and at some point i started to just get it. all of the men pictured above exude sexiness but are perhaps, strictly physically speaking, the most classically handsome hollywood types.
in that vein, i agree with javier bardem, jeffrey dean morgan, willem defoe, gary oldman and benicio. i mean, it's been said before that benicio del toro looks like a dirty brad pitt or something like that.. i feel that that is sort of the essence of this post..

44Hey guys, the concept jolie laide DOES exist in France, and it's actually a compliment. (Check out this link which I also included above). Women's looks are scrutinized enough. I want to celebrate the odd beauty of these men, and provide an American and male version of what already exists as a French and female version. C'est tout!

47Tres- I get where you're going with this post. I'm familiar with jolie-laide; I often thought of the concept as something similar to Japanese culture's concept of wabi-sabi. That something imperfect can be just as beautiful and often more engaging visually, than something traditionally pretty.
But ugly is such a loaded term full of pejorative connotations. If the post had been titled something like "who's your favorite unconventionally hot guy", the response likely would have been different.
