Whether they were set up by a mettlesome friend or collided at what they'd later call a "kegger," the story of how your parents met is unexpectedly endearing. Hearing how they once fidgeted on the shag carpet of a first date is as weird as it is comforting. So, tell us, how did yours go from strangers to mom and dad?

My Dad was the Quarterback and my Mom was the Cheerleader. =)
1My parents met in college; if I recall correctly, my dad was actually interested in a friend of my mom's and they met through her.
2My mom was cutting school and waiting for a bus in the city. My dad was driving a delivery truck and thought she was cute, so he stopped and offered her a ride. She said no, and he drove around the block and asked her again.
She still said no but she thought he was cute too, so she gave him her number.
3My folks met "on campus" in college. My kid brain interpreted that to mean they met camping on a football field, since I knew football was an important part of college.
4my parents met on a blind date.
5high school band. then met years later and formed their own band that they traveled on the road together. ended in divorce, but my mom met my step-dad on a blind date.
6they met at work
7My mom worked in a doughnut shop and my dad would go in there in the early mornings to get a coffee and a long john and somehow they got together from that, I don't really know the details
8They met at work, a hot dog shop called "weiner world." No lie. Ha!
9They met in college. My dad was really interested but my mom kept ignoring him. She finally caved and they went out.
10My mom was in nursing school, and he was on leave from the navy and saw her in her crisp white uniform leaving school and thought she was beautiful.
11My Mom was applying to be my Dad's secretary, and she walked down a hill in high heels and he told his friends that she was the woman he was going to marry!
My Dad kept asking her out, but she didn't even like him, and they all went out as a group where she was trying to get his friend to notice her. Dad kept ordering her drinks and she caved and they eventually started dating.
12my mom had a St. Patrick's Day party and invited her little sister, who was a freshman at a predominantly male engineering school where my dad was getting his MBA. mom's sister (my aunt) invited two friends, and one couldn't go at the last minute, so she asked my dad to come along. she had a green bagel on a string around her neck and he came in and introduced himself and took a bite of the bagel. they were married in February, but always celebrate St. Patrick's Day as their other anniversary
13In an after-school Biology club. My mom was the only girl, and most of the guys, including my dad liked her. She was a nerd, but very good looking. I asked why she picked him, and she said he was the smartest. xDD They were 15 when they met, so now they've been together for 35 years.
14My parents were junior high sweethearts! They have been together for over 40 years now.
15my mom was a secretary at the Federal Reserve
16My father and John grew up together in the southern suburbs of Chicago, and was in his wedding. Mom and my aunt are the only siblings, from St. Louis. Yep, my mother and father met at my aunt and uncle's wedding. They got married the following year, and Dad proposed on New Year's Eve. They were married for 51 years when Dad died seven years ago.
Now, if you would ask MY kids, they would say that Mom was working as a bartender in college and Dad used to come in with his friends because she had a nice ass.
17My parents met at Church. My mom was visiting a friend when she was 18. She raised her hand to comment and he brought the microphone to her and said, "who is this fox?" They've been married for 26 years.
18My parents met at the local dancing place. My mom said she always felt too cool to dance and just hung out, but my dad is still one of the best dancers I know
19He was a total geek, and it is a mystery to me how they ever started talking hehe.
At work. My Dad was really smitten with my Mom. He said she looked like a doll -- so pretty. He pursued her. My Mom wanted nothing to do with him. Apparently, somehow, he changed her mind.
20In classic 1970s fashion, they met playing doubles tennis.
21There was a pool party going on at the apartments my mom lived at and my dad and his best friend went to crash it or something and they met and hit it off. Soon later they got in a fight and she ended up moving to Oklahoma, but he drove all the way out there to apologize and asked her to marry him
22My parents met the first time when they were 12 at a military function. Their fathers were Naval Academy classmates, so they often ended up running in the same circle. They didn't start really dating until they were like 19 when my mom was home from school for a semester when she got mono.
23They were introduce by mutual friends, who owned a cafe that they would both frequent. At first she heated him because every time he saw her in the cafe with a guy he would start to sabotage her dates. After a year they became friends, dated for 2 months, and got marry. They were marry for 19 years until my dad pass away.
24My mom was in grad school, and her boyfriend was in law school with my dad. He became friends with my dad, and then introduced my mom and dad. My mom dumped the boyfriend and hooked up with my dad, hahah. Amazingly, they are all still friends, and the ex-boyfriend doesn't seem to care at all about what happened!
25My mom met my dad when he went to go see her brother who was in a band with my dad. At a bar. Little did she know my dads love of music, other women, bars and drinking would destroy her sham of a marriage after 20 years.
It seems to be a pattern, since my mom only dated musicians. Maybe now that shes older and divorced she'll find a nice, stable guy. Preferably one that doesn't waste away at bars all the time.
26High school, junior year. My parents had a class together, and my mom had a crush on my dad, who was completely oblivious. Senior year, he finally asked her out to the homecoming dance - but she couldn't go, she already had a date to the dance. Instead they went to the homecoming football game together, and the rest (41 years later!) is history.
27my parents were refugees of the vietnam war. the first time they met was at a refugee camp in guam. my dad always found my mom but she never talked to him because her brothers were waaay overprotective! that is, until he found her alone one day. they talked, and they met a couple more times, but my mom's family was sponsored by a church- they would help my mom's family with housing, food, jobs, etc. until they got on their feet. my mom left my dad and neither knew where she was headed- they thought that that would just be it. about a month later, my dad was sponsored by a nice family. wouldn't you know that he just happened to be sent to the same city as my mom?? IT WAS FATE!!! they courted, my mom's brothers became my dad's best friends, and now they are happily married with 4 adopted kids, 4 biological kids (ME!) aged 19-37, and a handful of grandkids :]
28They met in college, they were both staying in the same frat over the summer
29My parents met working at the same hospital in the Philippines. They did not begin to show interest with each other until my mom sprained her ankle and she was taken by her friend to the ER where my dad was working at the time. They dated for a year until my mom left for the US and they broke up. A year after, my grandpa wrote a letter to my mom to go back to my dad. I guess my grandpa was quite convincing lol, since they had a long distance relationship for four years until they agreed to marry.
30this is a great post! some lovely stories.
my mum threw and new years party and invited a guy she liked... he never showed. when she asked where he was someone told her he was at my dad's house. to which she replied "who the hell is ****".
a year on, her and a group of friends went to watch a rugby match at murrayfield, there was a huge hokey kokey outside the grounds, they literally bumped into one and other, and began talking. they've now been married for nearly 40 years.
31My parents actually meet on their first day of school when they were six years old. They were in the same class for the next 8 years, and were friends and hanging around with the same people. They never dated during this time, and went out into the world after high school as an au pair and exchange student. But when they were in their twenties they meet up with a bunch of other friends playing badminton, and feel in love... And now they have been married for 35 years! Its funny hearing about their childhood, because they knew a lot of the same people. So same situations, but different perception of things that happened.
32My parents met at Taco Mayo. and my grandparents met at a little diner called Hamburger King. so basically I'm destined to meet my soul mate at an eating establishment.
33My mum was sitting at the table next to my dad's table at a ball - she overheard him saying something pretty sexistic, turned around and slapped him in the face. Must have been love at first sight.
34I love reading all of these cool stories . . . so unique!
My mom's a nurse, my dad was working his way through college as the hospital janitor. She called him to clean up a bed pan and some kid who vomited and he asked her out after . . . ah, romance!
35My grandpa invited the new kid working on the farm to the rodeo, and insisted my mom show up too. My mom was there under duress (too "good" for the rodeo) until grandpa left her there with the new boy. They've been together 33 years!
36Blind date :]
37High School sweethearts. Still going strong.
38they met at a dog club...they loved pomeranians! when i was younger, we had 3. we now have 5 cats, 2 dogs and a bird. we've had more animals than that, believe it or not!
39They met on holiday in Spain back in 1987
40Got married 4 years later- on Halloween and they didn't realies that 15 years later
*realise

42mom and dad were classmates at a finance class back in college but mom didn't really notice dad at first.. but dad noticed her even if they were seated far apart..
then one day, mom was on the same bus *going home back to the countryside for the summer* with dad *road trip w/ friends* and he boldly grabbed the empty seat beside her and they started from there!
dad then became mom's tutor on that shared finance subject since he was a math nerd and mom had trouble with numbers..
my mom was a nurse in new york, my dad was in the airforce stationed in indiana...he was visiting his cousin in nyc and saw my mom in her nurses uniform walking down the street and stopped her and said "so you're a nurse?" HA! so original. it worked though. married now 42 years and still driving each other crazy...in a good way
43They met in college. My mom was friends with my dad's brother. When mom and friends went out, my dad started tagging along.. he had his brother as an excuse. LOL
44my mom and dad stopped next to eachother at a stop light, had the same cars.my dad said i like your car,my mom said different colors, they then sped off.and randomly saw eachother the next day at a club,my dad was with another girl and my mom asked him "when are you going to take that ugly broad home and hang out with me?" he took the women home and they were inseperable until they were divorced, thankfully : )
45my grandparents' marriage was arranged
46and my mom and my dad met at college
my mom used to dislike my dad, but somehow they got together haha
My parents met each other on the engagement party of their brother and sister! So we have a double family! Since my mother's brother is married to my dad's sister. It's pretty cool. They met when they were only 15, they are 52 now and still together, it's so lovely.
47my dad and mom met in highschool. She was a freshman and he was a senior. A few months later they ran away to WV to elope at the age of 16 (mom) and 18 (dad). The had my brother a few months later.
48My parents met quite young whilst working in a hospital. my mum was a newly trained midwife and my dad did part-time nursing/care assisting whilst at university
