"When you grow up with Lesbian mothers, you can't get your ears pierced to rebel. I became a Republican."
— Jesse Levey, a 29-year-old management consultant and Republican activist who believes in family values, small government, and the right of lesbians, like his mothers, to marry. He's part of the Gayby Boom generation, the children of gay couples who were part of the modern gay rights movement, which is said to have started around 40 years ago.

So this child grew up like any other one would have? I'm sorry but what is the surprise here!?
1hopefully more people like him can stand up and say "I'm conservative but support human rights" meaning gay marriage.
2I agree, mamsita, although I would say civil rights, not human rights.
3To clarify, I think marriage in general is a civil right, not a human right. It's a civil contract.

5And Ziva, I think the statement is noteworthy because so many people still think that Republican automatically equals anti-Gay rights. I've seen that sentiment on this site countless times (from commenters more often than from Tres herself.)
6That's definitely a refreshing sentiment from a Republican. Maybe he can bring some of them around?
7Good of him to speak out. But i'm sorry - the "gayby boom"? I had to read that about 5 times to make sense of it. that is the silliest term I've ever heard. I hope it doesn't catch on.
8So much for corrupting a child with gay parents.
This is what we need more of, children of gay parents who turn out heterosexual and live normal lives to stand up and show themselves so we can take that excuse off the table.
9I'm just commenting that it isn't a big deal and shouldn't be one either.
It should be common sense that regardless of parents, people will grow up to be their own person.
Many adults had straight parents that were less then ideal in one way or another but turned out fine.
And of course, the majority of gay people came from straight parents.
Oh and I have to agree that "gayby boom" is completely ridiculous as a term.
10And I'm just commenting that, apparently, to some people it is a big deal because there are people who assume that all Republicans hate gay people.
11I hate the term Gayby!
