I came across a news story that sounds like it's straight out of The Onion — the city of Canterbury, England, has just been ruled "sufficiently gay" after government inspectors were called in to investigate claims that the city did not do enough to promote homosexual culture.
So how did the panel of investigators come to this determination? By consulting a checklist of stereotypes of course! The city had to supply proof that it supports events "of interest to the LGBT community," such as "touring plays and musicals."
The two-month investigation kicked off after some members of the gay community expressed concern that the historically religious city was unwelcoming to gay people.
Since June is Gay Pride month, check out all of our other coverage of LGBT issues in the news.

cities have to promote homosexual culture now? its a requirement? please tell me thats a joke!
1I assume there was a survey conducted to find out how many Queer as Folk and The L Word DVDs and Ween and Cher albums are made available in the local video and music stores. Probably also a random sample closet raid to determine the ratio of people who own cutoff jeans, and psychological evaluations to determine how the townsfolk react to flamboyant men misdirecting their anger from their maternal relationships. Surely they know how they gays operate.
2Oh my good lord. I hope everyone the world starts to sufficiently gay their cities! Yet another thing people are doing to stop people from freaking out..
And honestly, I can't believe they are referring to plays and musicals as being a "gay" thing...
