For some reason, the urge to wash that man (or woman) right out of your hair can also involve cutting or coloring your hair or getting a new shade of lipstick. Whatever it is you do, sometimes you need a breakover (breakup makeover).
Perhaps, you're declaring that you are a new person without the dead weight and splitting with your split ends symbolically represents that. The key, I would imagine, is to keep your breakover minimal. If that shade of neon orange on your lips isn't quite you, you can always rub it off and return to red. Blond skunk stripes? Not so much.
Have you ever gotten a breakover? What did you do?

Well when I met my now ex-fiance, I had sort of short/mediumish hair, which I loved. But he had wanted me to grow it out, then I was growing it out for our wedding, so it got a bit long and drove me crazy and I was dying to have it short again. However, when I found out he had cheated on me and gotten another girl pregnant, I went and chopped all my hair off!
It wasn't as short as I had wanted it, but now I have it how I want it and it is perfect and I love it!
1Wow, that story mguy. Glad you got rid of him and got the cut you wanted! Beware the dude who wants you to change your look for him...
2mguy- you make me want to watch Sliding Doors.
3not so much a makeover, but i picked up a hot new post-breakup accessory once... a sexy greek boy
4Sort of. Many, many years ago, due to a bad break-up, I made the rash decision of cutting off my long, healthy hair. Ever since then, I always had short hair, and had a difficult time growing it back. I could never get past that awkward, in-between stage when my hair was growing out from it's short hairstyle. I would always get it cut back to it's short hairstyle. I missed my long hair terribly.
Right now, I am DETERMINED to grow my hair long. I haven't cut my hair in over a year and a half. It's not as long as it used to be, but it's slowly getting there.
5after my breakup with my first love (freshman year just couldn't keep our high school love alive...),I pierced my nose. took it out 6 months later, but it was a change!!!!!!
6Never done this. Probably because I have never been broken up with, and anyone I broke up with, I broke up with for a reason...and it didn't occur to me to feel bad.
If by chance my boyfriend breaks up with me (god forbid), I don't think I'd change anything. I mean, how will it make you feel better? Sometimes too many changes can be traumatic.
7I chopped off my straight, waist length hair and got a super short, layered cut after I caught my ex cheating. I think I gloated for a very very long time when he told me it looked hot and tried to hook up with me again.
8Interesting article =)
9Never done that before (i'm too young to react like that after a littl but cute story ^^) Changed my attitude though =)
I died my hair plumm-purple
10not so much a break over, but i started to look better and show him what he was really missing! i moved on with my life and i'm doing AWESOME!! when i moved to another state he asked my friends where i was and they said she moved to "state name here" with her boyfriend!! he was shocked!!
11I was pissed off at my long hair-loving boyfriend so I cut mine to my ears as a subtle dig
12My hair used to be really long but after the breakup I chopped off 13 inches of my hair, I donated the hair to a nonprofit that makes wigs for children. I have boy hair, it's above my ears and I hate it. At least my hair is being put to good use. I also changed the way I dressed too.
13when my bf dumped me i had short-pretty highlighted brown/blonde hair...i had been debating on going darker but i think after he broke up w/ me i kinda snapped and rushed into dying it b/c i wanted a change....so i bought a dark brown color from the store, but something went wrong and it dyed my hair black...not even brown black, black black...but i have olive colored skin so it looked awesome...i also cut it even shorter and everyone loved it! so that breakover ended up being really cool
14When my boyfriend and I broke up, I cut my long hair off to my shoulders. We are back together now though. He says he liked my long hair better, but too late.
15I didn't do anything dramatic, but I did go on a shopping spree, and took extra special attention to looking as hot as possible for the weeks after. And yes, it worked, he wanted me back- but it was TOO late!
16I am certain I've had these breakovers. ha ha. Very clever. One I remember was getting my hair cut in a fabulous long straight bob. My hair is very fine and blond and it looked killer. My ex had always bugged me to wear it long so the whole time I dated him my hair looked sort of scraggly and did nothing for me. Later when he saw my shorter hair he liked it. What a jerk.
