I've written in a journal (what I decided to call my diary after the 5th grade!) since I was a wee girl. I'd write poetry, observations about classmates, and complaints about life in general. (I was way Emo.)
If I stacked all the journals I've kept since I started, they would reach the ceiling. I love Meade's wide ruled notebooks (my life tends to go well in blue journals, as opposed to yellow ones), and I have to use a gel ink pen.
A journal can be so many things — a place to write reminder notes to yourself, to analyze stuff that's going on in your life, and just generally practice writing. I remember telling someone once who asked if I were a writer, "Not really — I just write daily in my journal," and the person said, "If that's not writing, what is? Only writers would do that!"
Sometimes it’s fun to go back and look at what was occupying your mind in the past, and to see how far you’ve come. Have you ever written in a journal, or do you still?

I wrote in a journal until about the time that I got midway through college. Oddly enough, I think I stopped because continuing to keep one would have forced me to admit just how awful my relationship had become. Looking back at those diaries from middle school can be really amusing though
1i never have
2I'm a life long journaler!
3Writing has always been very important to me so I write in my diary whenever I get a chance. I feel like I'm talking to my future self as I write about what made me angry or what I watched on TV. I have grown so much since I first started keeping a diary. When I have no one I can trust a secret with, I tell my faithful diary.
4I like the idea of journaling. I think it would help me keep a cool head. But, when I am angry and trying to actually write, I become more infuriated. I have no idea why! I like the idea of a private online journal, just because sometimes handwriting things can make it less appealing. Shows how lazy I have become thanks to technology.
5From middle to maybe my third year of college, I wrote in a journal all the time. I stopped after my ex decided it would be fun for him to hunt for them and read them all without my permission.
I'd really like to start back though.
6I've been journaling for several years now and I love it! It brings such joy to me.
7I did pretty frequently when I was younger, and more sporadically through high school and college. I still do a bit now, but only like once a month or when things are really going terribly and I have the motivation to "write it out".
Looking back on all my journals, I see a clear divide between before and after a particularly tragic event in my life. Before I wrote more frequently, with short daily notes, and things tended to be more youthfully joyous. Afterward, entries were a lot longer, but they were few and far between [periods of 3-6 months], more negative and broody. I think that's why I don't journal much anymore. I do want to try again...though my more daily goings-on I keep track of in my online journal. It's much faster and easier on my hands!
8I have since I was in second grade. I used to be more creative and used my college journals as places to jot down a few stanzas I'd come up with or other people's song lyrics that were especially meaningful to me that day...but now I fear I am less creative and my journals now are filled with complaints and the day-to-day "today we saw 'The Hangover' and it was great."
9No way. I keep all my thoughts in my head where no one can find them and read them.
10I do, but not on a regular basis. If something is weighing heavily on me, or if I feel inspired to write, then I do. It is definitely a great release.
11I've been writing in journals since third grade and still have them all!
12I always have, but I go through phases where I write a lot and other times when I don't write much at all. It's important to not stress myself out about it but use it as a stress reliever. When I die, I think I want to be cremated with all my journals.
13I write in my blog more, but I have a paper journal I write in too sometimes. I don't really update it regularly though.
14I used to keep one when I was younger but stopped in middle school. I've really wanted to start writing in one again...I think it might be a helpful stress relief as well as a "counselor" of sorts! LoL
15I sure do. It keeps me sane.
16I'd like to. It tend more to write online and keep tabs that way. I don't know though...I can't seem to keep myself to a steady schedule. I don't sketch in my sketchbook often enough either.
17i had a bad experience with my old journals including having my ex read them, then try to talk to me about the entries. ugh... since then i have been trying to get back into it. i think i like the idea of an online anonymous blog better...
18I have 7 or 8 years of my life written out in regular journals, but I just don't do it anymore. Mostly I don't feel like I need to anymore. Also, adolescent musings are one thing, but journals are risky when you write about things that really matter. It loses the therapeutic effect when you can't be open and honest.
19I always thought that I didn't have anything to write about because my life was so boring. But I think writing down whatever thoughts in my head will be better for me and my writing.
20I've blogged since high school.
It's not about others reading it, although it is
nice to get the occasional advice or compliment from fellow bloggers. I don't often physically write things out simply because typing is so much quicker and neater (easy to erase, add, edit,
etc.). When something really gets to me though, I'll write it out sort of like in a letter, then I seal it and stow it away. It actually really helps!
21Yes, but I've never wrote very often. Every 2 months maybe? That's probably a good thing, because I only feel like writing when I'm really upset about something. If for a long period I don't write anything, it probably means I'm enjoying a peaceful life
22I want to start writing more frequently though. I like reading back and remembering little details about things and how I felt about them... I'd like to remember the good times that way as well. =)
I don't like journals because for some reason, writing in one makes me feel like I'm obligated to do it and then it's not fun...if that makes any sense, haha
23What I do is make lists--of anything from favorite movies to goals to new haircut ideas--and keep them all together in one book.
Yeah, I'm gonna write in my journal about that stupid blue survey ball that keeps popping up on my screen and annoying me.
24Seriously, truth is..yes, off & on I've kept one.
25I have a journal but I only write in it every year or so, I forget that I have it, then rediscover it, read all the icky emo-entries I've made since I was 12 until now, and update on the important parts. It's nice to see one's own development over time =)
26I have in the past but once I thought that someone I had trusted was reading them they became less therapeutic. I felt like if someone was reading it that I should tone down my thoughts but what's the point of having a journal if you can't be honest in it?
27Since my early teen years. It started out as a book to keep favored poems, quotes, pics, etc. I still have my very first one, I have most of all of them and still keep one today.
28I've done that before, just to keep notes actually. But i never have written in a diary as a teenager or before that time.
29I'm about to turn 19 and I still write in a journal. I have most of my life. I don't do it every day, but occasionally when something big happens that is worth writing about.
