That is AWESOME Obama! I am really happy about this.
I love the big O, but sometimes feel that he's more talk than action, like in the case of Guantanamo bay. Glad to see him putting his feelings to work!
Gay equality is coming, Bushbots. Better get on the right side of history.
1Yeah, but not including health insurance coverage is a big FAIL in my book. The NYT editorial from yesterday summed up my feelings on Obama's stance toward the LGBT community. It's disappointing, but not surprising.
2Health Insurance would have to go through litigation this is something that Obama could do on his own without all the approval, so its a step in the right direction!
3totally agree Bella. there is a lot of work to do and I don't think Obama will be one to do it. this was just appeasing the LGBT community since he's done nothing else for them while in office.
4I personally think there's still a long way to go. I guess I'm just impatient.
5Give the man a break! Yes, he did talk about a LOT of things during the campaign...you have to remember that campaign time is crunch time, and things don't happen overnight. There's a LOT that goes into making lasting changes like this...red tape and bureaucracy and *opposition* [if it's going to happen, even if it IS only a small step, he has to negotiate to get the opposition to at least let the actions pass] slow down many things.
People are just terribly impatient. As with most things, we can go downhill really fast, but it takes a LOT longer to fix them, much less implement completely new policies. I believe that Obama will at least attempt to do all the things he said he will do...but he's still got 3.5 years left! I don't expect quick change, in fact, I'd be wary of them. @_@
6I wasn't a fan of Obama, because I believed he was all talk. Now, I feel really bad for him. He set up so many expectations from so many types of people with different interests and they are all pretty much hounding him from what I've heard. Granted, I am not much into the political scene (horrible, I know) but I am glad that this seems to be a good start.
Like margokhal said... Give the man a break!! He can only do so much in a certain amount of time!
