Darfur has almost disappeared from the news, and experts now call it a "low intensity" conflict. But the intensity of the crisis has not lessened for those who are struggling to survive. . . . Thirty percent of those displaced are school-age children. Girls leaving the [refugee] camps are raped; boys leaving the camps are killed. They want an education; they want to go back to their villages, to their land; they want peace. But they also want justice.
In an op-ed on Time.com today, Angelina Jolie attempts to lend some publicity to the crisis in Darfur. Today, the United Nations Security Council will look into the case against Sudanese President Omar al Bashir, who has been indicted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. Bashir has been accused of taking out his inability to defeat rebels on the civilian population by subjecting it to rape, hunger, and fear. Angelina hopes the UN will act on this indictment and end the suffering in Darfur.

Love her so much for shining a light on a somewhat dimmed issue and speaking up for those whose voice cannot be heard. It is my hope that Bashir pays for all he's done to innocent people.
1too bad more people aren't interested in this. they would rather read about what she's wearing or whatever.
2First of all she didn't write the article. Second, she can always abandon acting and go into politics if she really wanted to make a difference. It IS all about politics.
3how do you know she didn't write the article? LoL Have you read her book "notes from my travels." ?
4Darfur is very real and unfortunately the senseless killings and injustice is beyond the grasp of most people. Angelina is not illiterate and she does write her own articles. There is a wondeful book called "Notes From My Travels" written by Angelina. Amazon sell it and all the proceeds goes to the UN Children's Fund. It is a terrific read. Yes, she could give up acting and go full board into humanitarian efforts but she is not into politics. But acting gives her the opportunities (money) to make many things happen specially with the worldwide fame she carries. It is call a trade off. Can any of us quit our jobs and pursue our passions. I think not.
5And that's why Jolie is the most powerful celeb in the world. She is influential worldwide because of the international causes she is focused on. She actually has more guts than most politicians in and outside the US
Beauty, brains, passion and everlasting growth , not the typical hollywood, superficial, ego maniac, whiny bimbo !
6Another publicity stunt just in time of alleged break up between her and Pitt.
7Who cares what she's got to say about anything. People find yourselves real heroes to worship instead of that uneducated twat. Yeah, she wrote that article just like she changes diapers of her kids. Ha ha ha
some postings here really show how light headed most of you americans are. you really don't care about the rest of the world but yourselves unless the consequencies keep you from buying junk foods and gossip mags. please educate yourselves and be thankful for those who are working their a*** to do good in this world. be grateful you have the best president in the world who travelled half way the world to clean up the mess your dear Bush has made and today an actress who is taking the voices of those you don't even care about.
8#9 and yet you come to american website to enjoy our culture/ entertainment.
9If you're so smart and above it all stick to political websites you own country has to offer.
