Well, to each his (or her) own. Ugh. I'm not defending Kanye in any way, but there WAS a time when many people were illiterate, and life experience was the only way to "learn" things.

To HAVE the chance and ability to read, though, and NOT encourage it, is really STUPID. There are SO many things that I have learned from books, because there wasn't anyone around to show me. And reading helps you advance in life and NOT get taken advantage of.

I was so focused on the quote that I TOTALLY missed the irony (hating books and then promoting a book). And I actually HAVE this book already - he gave them out (at least in Salt Lake City) for free after his Glow in the Dark tour show last summer!
