An extremely politically correct cartoon-family is coming to a television near you. Mike Judge of King of the Hill and Beavis and Butt-head fame has created a new show — The Goode Family — which premiers on ABC tonight.
The Goodes are many shades of green. They use reusable shopping bags (not the ones made in sweat shops), drive hybrid cars, recycle, and ask themselves: what would Al Gore do? In addition to being environmentally conscious, they're also socially aware: they're vegans, have a dog named Che, and they even adopted a little boy from Africa. (Once they adopted Ubuntu, they found out he was actually born to white Afrikaans parents in South Africa. They still have him wear traditional African dress.)
The premise sort of reminds me of the South Park episode all about smug people in San Francisco. In that episode, the "smug" (smog) from preachy, hybrid car owners ends up causing an environmental disaster. Despite the similarities in using progressives as their targets, The Good Family does treat the earnest clan a little kinder than South Park would, making it apparent that the characters have genuine intentions.
Do you know anyone that tries a little too hard to do good(e)?

LOL! The clip won't show for me but this is kind of the stereotype of the town I live in. Head to Whole Foods on Pearl Street in Boulder, CO and some of these scenes may be recreated for you just during the lunch rush.
1O.K. now I have seen the clip and still LOLing. As the "token" minority that ends up in "progressive towns" I have experienced the weirdness they exhibit to the "people of color" in the show. Same wankery in Arcata, CA... Missoula, MT... and Boulder, CO.
2I just fixed it.
3Yeah, I experience people like this all of the time. Although, they are not good-natured, like the Goode family is. I have known people who get extremely angry if others don't live as they see fit. I knew someone who adamantly refused to befriend people who shopped at Wal-Mart.
4LOL looks interesting. I suppose some people where I live (TX) consider me a do gooder... vegetarian, recycles, uses Method soap.
5Yeah, I think I'M that person!
6Why won't people just let the Spin Doctors die?
I bet a billion bucks that this would be way funnier if it was on Comedy Central. The fact that it's on ABC negs this for me.
7I might check it out.
8The Goode Family was really BADDDDD! Note to ABC let FOX have the adult cartoons stick to making dramas/dramedy's ( The Unusual etc) and good sci fi ( LOST)
