I love watching a cheater squirm. Even better when it's a politician, Oprah's instigating it, and his wife is right there. That's pretty much how it went on Oprah today when she interviewed Elizabeth Edwards about her new book, Resilience: Reflections on the Burdens and Gifts of Facing Life's Adversities, which includes life adversities like dealing with an adulterous husband.
Before leaving, Oprah asked John — on camera — if she could talk to him. How could he refuse! He took her into his mansion's full-court basketball court saying, "I played Barack in here." (Nice try!), but she got right down to business: "What did you think when you finished the book?" "What did you say?" "Would you prefer she hadn't done it?" "Were you afraid she'd leave you?" See what he awkwardly has to say for himself.

Wow. That was so uncomfortable. Less awkward and more just sad and painful. I'd squirm too if cornered by two kickass women such as themselves.
1I've seen people squirm and he didn't look like he was squirming all that much to me. Maybe because this is the aftermath of the revelation. They're in the repair faze already not the shock faze so he's more at ease now to me. I did find it funny the way Oprah was standing there with her hands on her hips and Elizabeth with her arms crossed.
2I agree w/ hypnotic mix. Although I find it strange Tres that you would want to see someone in "squirm" in emotional pain...and want to take any pleasure or enjoyment in that.
Also, I found that the interview confirmed my thoughts before about adultery - unless you are one of the two parties involved in the marriage its none of your business what happened, why it happened or how it will be resolved. It's completely between those two people only.
3Why do these public figures talk about their private lives after an affair? John and Elizabeth, Jon, and Kate, etc should just lay low! I just think it's totally humiliating for all parties involved to go on Oprah or CNN or wherever and talk about what it's like to recover from infidelity. I think they owe it to their kids to get out of the public eye for as long as they can.
4This video reminded me of why I never voted for that man. I never trusted him with his perfect Colgate smile, and his home is way too extravagant to allow him to claim that he can relate to the working class part of the country. Even if he wasn't squirming per se, it was definitely an uncomfortable interview. Frankly, I think he deserves to squirm a little more than that after what he did to his wife.
5It is sad. But when you decide to go on Oprah to discuss it, you kind of make it everyone's business.
6If my husband had an affair, I would die if Oprah showed up with a camera. I guess it's different because he's a politician, but I still don't like it. It's painful to see him looking so gorgeous, and to see his wife still recovering from cancer and not looking her best. My instinct is always that private lives of public officials should be off limits.
I voted for Edwards in the big D primary, because i used to love him. He's the only candidate that has seriously addressed the issue of poverty, in my opinion. Still, I just don't respect him anymore. I think he's largely finished. I wish he'd leave his marriage to heal in private.
7argh, hey Très - I can't watch these videos when I'm browsing Sugar at work since they're blocked, I really wish you could also write up a quick couple of lines about the video for those of us in that boat!!
8I don't think he was squirming either and I think he knew deep down that she wouldn't leave him no matter what he did. I found it odd how she was just grinning at him. Someone said she was kickass and I disagree with that. But hey that is just my opinion. I think he will do it again when the dust settles...if he isn't already.
9Yeah, he's a politician. He gave easy answers, as he was likely trained to do.
10Ugh, why do I always have to log in twice to post a comment? So annoying!
I didn't think he was squirming that much either, and frankly, I would have liked to see Oprah make him squirm a lot more for what he did. I gotta say, maybe Elizabeth was just nervous, but I think she secretly enjoyed that Oprah was questioning him about this and making him uncomfortable, lol. Really, she did seem nervous that whole segment, but if they are going to do interviews about the book, they should expect people to ask about the infidelity. And I really wanted to reach through the screen and slap that smarmy smile off his face.
I disagree that politicians lives should be private. IMO, what you do in your private life and to the people you love the most, says a lot about your character and what you will do to or for people you don't know (the public). If I'm voting for someone to represent me and make laws that will affect parts of my personal life, then why shouldn't I know how they live their personal lives?
11Ya his house is insane but he also lives in North Carolina were there is a lot more space.
12Anyways, I was completely disappointed in him when all this broke out. The whole thing is weird with Elizabeth grinning madly and the kids skipping, it was just so strange. I don't feel like they have to do this since his political career is pratically over. Who are they trying to impress.
I pray for the healing of John and Elizabeth Edwards and their children. They are a, beautifully, patriotic family, and American needs this family to remain intact for the coming political battles, especially for Universal Health Care and the fight for the Middle Class and the end of poverty in America.
