I'm not a germaphobe, so all this news about swine flu doesn't have me reaching for more antibacterial soap or washing my hands any more than I already do. I may be persuaded, however, to don one of these lovely made-to-order surgical masks. Especially the one that says, "OINK!"

1If it gets THAT bad...all KINDS of ridiculous.
I'm not freaking out, but I'm wary of people. They've been saying to wash your hands and stay away from sick people/if you're sick FOREVER for regular flu...and like nobody does it. People get infected because other people are just too damn lazy. That's my only gripe.

4My gripe is the people who are sick (with anything, really, not just the flu) and insist that they're so important they can't possibly miss work/school/church/whatever. You're not that important. Seriously. Go away.

9You know, being sanitary and cautious are things that you're supposed to do already. I'd be embarrassed if i had to be advised to wash my hand.
10There's a lot of people that have to choose between staying home sick or staying home with sick kids or losing their jobs [more likely now that everybody's being laid off], so I don't think the people that come to work or school sick are actually intentionally meaning to cause any harm - even though they do cause a LOT. They really SHOULD stay home, but for them, it's not worth losing the roof over your head, or health insurance to actually take care of you when you're sick, or food on the table. Not saying it's right, just that it's the reality of life for a great many people.
It's hard when you have to choose between trying to make it through a work day or not having a source of income - and a lot of employers are not being very forgiving about letting people off of work/using sick days, even with this threat. Just a thought.

15Too bad these masks don't help prevent you from getting sick! Surgical masks do not filter the air, they are only intended to stop spray from the users mouth/nose.
To prevent getting the flu, you need to wear an N95 rated mask....like the ones a woodworker or painter would wear. They are rigid domes that go over your face/mouth, not soft flat ones like surgeons wear.
16yeah, within 45 seconds of wearing a cheapo mask like this, they no longer block germs.
