—“If a guy can’t rape his wife, who’s he gonna rape?”
Yuck.
1geez another Duggar baby.
2At least it wasn't number 19. Jeez...there are going to be a lot of Duggars!
3exactly, just as heartwarming as saying “If a woman would keep her mouth shut, there wouldn’t be an issue with domestic violence.”
Nice pick Palin, I'm really hoping that he didn't really say those things.
4The Duggars belong to a Christian movement called Quiverfull that believes they should create as many new Christians as possible.
www.newsweek.com/id/189763
5Well they're definitely doing their fair share....
6There is nothing wrong with the QF movement as long as you are responsble parents which the Duggars are.
7The name of that organization if really bizarre. A quiver is a case full of arrows. Does anyone else see the meaning behind that? Maybe that is what they have in mind.
8Yeah the outrage about the "rape law" is outrageous like the writer said this is nothing new and is a practice seen in many countries outside of Afghanistan I'm sure it's insanely hard/impossible to press charges against your husband for rape in this country.
"Quiverfull that believes they should create as many new Christians as possible. "
9This is assuming that the Child does not grow up to be a free thinking adult that makes a decision to continue to be a Christian or leave the church. I'm sure they are home schooled which "limits" there decision to do something "different"
It is a shame that in the zeal, to besmirch Sarah Palin, unsupported statements about rape attributed to a man without substantiation can be spread around like this.
10Quiverfull is from a Bible verse. "Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate." They want to create an army of devout children to wage spiritual battle against God's enemies, they use warlike metaphors a lot.
11Afghanistan is living in a tribal society more in tune with the 12'th century then the 20th. The struggle for civil rights for every citizen will be a battle fought over decades, or centuries, not in months or years.
12it won't and can't be imposed from "outside". The best hope is schooling. An education system open to men as well as women. It will be that group that will bring any reform into that country, if reform is possible.
13I don't know, Grandpa, it was a veteran lobbyist testifying in front of the state judiciary committee. Would she lie? Would she risk her reputation?
14I'll give Chuck Todd's new show a try.
15Why are people pressuring Obama to go restructure Cuba when we don't even have Detroit set?
16Mydia, well we Christians use "warlike" words because as many of us believe we are all in a war against forces that wish to annihilate our values and beliefs.
"This is assuming that the Child does not grow up to be a free thinking adult that makes a decision to continue to be a Christian or leave the church. I'm sure they are home schooled which "limits" there decision to do something "different"
there is this tiny thing that real christians believe...its called free will, we teach what we know and you make the decision, its kinda a nifty thing actually, really keen.
17Mydia, well we Christians use "warlike" words because as many of us believe we are all in a war against forces that wish to annihilate our values and beliefs.
I am a Christian and I don't believe this.
18Neither do I Tia.
19Thats why CG said "many" and not "all".
20why yes thats what "many of us" not "all of us" mean. or wasnt that clear as day?
21Thanks for clearing that up. I also know that my idea of Free Will is probably vastly different from "some" on here, as I don't freely judge those that will choose a different lifestyle from my own...it's all in the wording.
22Yeah CG, I wish you'd say something like "Christians who think as I do", leave the rest of us out of it.
23As clear as the sky on a cloudy rain drenched day!
24God you guys are riciculous. She said "MANY" because it is true, MANY do beleive that. She didn't say ALL, she didn't say MOST.
So lay off. Otherwise its not very Christian of you.
25I wasnt aware that you were my judge lili?
and steph i dont base my comments on what you would feel comfy hearing.
26vain use....
27I couldn't agree more with comment 27, only I would probably not limited that to just Steph!
28I don't care, I'm not the one talking about how Christian I am, am I?
29besides, wasn't using his name in vain, was calling on him for help!
30I'm not talking about The Duggars/All Christians but in some cases isolation ( home schooling, no tv, and limited contact with non believers) does not breed free will.
31Observation CG not judgement.
32"well we Christians use "warlike" words because as many of us believe we are all"
Read it again carefully and you'll see that it's not clear -it in fact sounds as if we ALL use warlike words in support of the belief of MANY OF US.
And Haus, no one's rating themselves as Christians, simply separating themselves from a comment we consider offensive.
33"I'm not talking about The Duggars/All Christians but in some cases isolation "
And the percentage of this group when compared to the whole of Christiandom would be what? 5% maybe? The vast majority of Christian denominations are in favor of free will.
34steph. do you want me to back track and say "well we, meaning me and a lot of people i know feel the same way, use warlike words because as many of us believe we are all , and by we I dont mean every single one or even 90% but you know that cause your smart people......"?
ANd what is offensive about it.
35get a grip people. Use your noggin to know that I caterpillargirl am not assuming the position as speaker for an entire group. there is my dis.freaking.claimer.
allright? we, some of us, many of us, its a way of describing without getting to intricate with the detail. I will be more specific if you cant handle it.
36and by a war with "forces" I mean demonic in nature if you want to know that detail. old scratch himself.
37"And the percentage of this group when compared to the whole of Christiandom would be what? 5% maybe? The vast majority of Christian denominations are in favor of free will"
generalizations are a dangerous thing...mixing up the "vast majority" and a few is terrible - glad to see you actually agree with that.
38Someday, I hope there will be a conversation on citizen which is about the topic at hand, rather than nit picking and b*tching about what other people have posted.
Afghanistan is definitely a tribal culture more in tune with 12th century values than 21st century values, G'pa!
39I hope that Palin's pick didn't say that, but I certainly don't know enough about him to say whether its likely.
That's a lot of Druggars! I hope the two of them are as happy as they look.
It must kind of suck to be a Duggar--it's not like the parents can change every single diaper. I'm sure a lot of that stuff falls on the older kids, which kinda robs them of their childhood. But hey, arrows and all that, I guess.
40Hee! I love the word noggin.
41All I can say about the guy in Alaska is that denied ever making such statement, and denied it vigorously. That being the case, it is incumbent on the press to get some additional substation before publishing. Raymond Donoven a former Sect. of Labor of larceny and Fraud in NYC about 20 years ago in NYC. He was acquitted of all charges and famously said after the trial ""Which office do I go to get my reputation back?". I think of those student at Duke who were accuse of rape. I think of Richard Jewel. The security guard discovered the bag and alerted Georgia Bureau of Investigation officers; 9 minutes later, Rudolph called 911 to deliver a warning. Jewell and other security guards began clearing the immediate area so that a bomb squad could investigate the suspicious package. The MSM accused him of planting the bomb, based on hearsay.
42In "the old days" older siblings helped with the young ones, it gave them some responsibilities, life lessons, and made them understand how much work babies really are. There is nothing wrong with expecting an older child to be a younger childs role model and leader. It robs them of nothing.
43There is a difference between being a role model and leader, and a 14 year old parenting a 2 year old, because Mom & Dad can't handle it. Yet, Mom & Dad continue to pop out babies. The girls are raised to have no other option in life than to be a pregnant wife, and you can't send all those children off to college, so only the boys get that option.
44'The girls are raised to have no other option in life than to be a pregnant wife'
I would just take that and clarify it from my personal opinion, the girls are raised to think their is no greater ambition than to be a pregnant wife.
And the war-like terms in Quiverfull are more than just a reference to the fighting of demonic forces. Quiverfull advocates Rick and Jan Hess, authors of 1990's "A Full Quiver: Family Planning and the Lordship of Christ," envision the worldly gains such a method could bring, if more Christians began producing "full quivers" of "arrows for the war": control of both houses of Congress, the "reclamation" of sinful cities like San Francisco and massive boycotts of companies that do not comply with conservative Christian mores. "If the body of Christ had been reproducing as we were designed to do," the Hesses write, "we would not be in the mess we are today."
45So go report them for child abuse, or dont you think that if they were seriously mentally and emotionally abusing thier children something would be done about it? Or is it that you just dont agree with thier lifestyle?
46so what if they think there is no greater ambition! For people who scream "intolerance!" everytime they think there is discrimination in the world you sure are condemning.
47How am I condemning? I said their is no greater ambition which I think is more accurate than no other option which Brandy stated.
48I see nothing tolerant in being forced to buddy up and raise your younger sibling. Yes, older siblings can be role models but the system that the Duggar's use for their children, they aren't just helping when possible, they are helping as a core duty and rule of the house. I fail to see the fairness in that set-up. But I guess it's a to each his/her/their own.
49I'm with Tia. If fulfilling your dream of a large family requires that the older children co-parent the younger, there's a serious element of selfishness in your plan.
