THE END IS NEAR!!!!!!!!!
1i was wondering when we would get even and inkling of representation regarding all of the grass roots efforts about the TEA parties on this site. But it has to be just that people have sent tea bags to the reps... there is WAY more going on, but yet I guess republican grass roots efforts are not acknowledged on this site.
2"Some who advocate for same-sex marriage have taken the issue far beyond same-sex couples. They want to bring the issue in to my life. My freedom will be taken away."
So it's okay to keep denying same-sex couples freedom so these people won't be uncomfortable? It's the end of the world as we know it if things don't go their way?
3That ad was fine, it wasn't hateful or anything so I am waiting patiently to hear the comments from other posters.
4That doctor is the one that got me. Because that is the issue. People are afraid that if gay "marriage" is legalized, that their rights WILL be infringed as well. Can anyone assure me that my work as a photographer will not be compromised should I choose not to photograph a gay wedding, since I am against it? Just curious.
5I read the article and they are claiming that some religious organizations are being denied licenses and exemption from property taxes because they don't support gay marriage. I haven't seen collaborative proof on that yet. If it is happening though, I agree that religious people/organizations are losing their liberties. If it is wrong to deny a person the ability to marry the same sex it is also wrong to deny licenses and exemptions based on religious beliefs.
6Hain, IMO you most likely will get hit with a discrimination lawsuit.
7exactly. And a private dr who referred a gay couple to another IVF clinic because he felt morally opposed to it was sued as well.... But it won't affect us at all... So if there were assurances that frivilous law suits like these would be prevented, things might be different. But all people can do is call me a bigot because i don't want to take pics at a gay wedding.
8So please U.S., continue discriminating against same-sex couples and don't disturb my comfort level.
9WOW.
10how is that comfort level? being sued is not just unCOMFORTable UGH!!!!!
11That ad is ridiculous.
However, props to them for using such diverse spokespeople!
12I mean....everyone knows it's just a matter of time, right? Like you can fight it tooth and nail right now. It's still going to happen.
13Amy!
14Go Tea Parties! Hitting up two of the local ones next week.
15Wow, Wonkette is not a pleasant place. The hatred, condescension and bigotry in those comments about citizens making a statement with teabags is astounding. It's no wonder this country is divided like it is.
I am all for people having differing opinions. I may not care for your big government and spending run amuck, but we can still be civil about it. Insulting people because they don't agree with your rhetoric is pathetic and childish.
I for one am proud that people are showing their displeasure of tax, spending and borrowing policies of the government. It's a small measure to send the Congress a tea bag. Silly even. But don't think that each one that is received is not considered. Politicians do not like when the sheeple begin to stir. The tea parties across the country might surprise many as well. I suppose liberals will be hard pressed to support the gatherings but if you care about the fiscal future of this country I think all Americans should support the effort and what it signifies. Then again if trillions of dollars of deficit and mountains of debt (YES! I know from Republicans too) means nothing to you then do nothing.
16Commenting on the spongebob/sir-mix-alot story...

17I hate that commercial. Ever since my daughter saw this commercial she laughs and does the booty dance. She watches Spongebob from time to time and the worse they've done on the show is say the word stupid. Which she knows not to repeat.
I am hitting up a local tea party, and i have at least 10 of my liberal friends going with me. this isn't about liberal vs conservative republican vs democrat. It is about making sure our legislators understand that there are a lot of us out here suffering who supposedly make a decent income. But we just keep getting taxed more and more, at what point is enough enough. WE NEED TO CUT SPENDING AND PROGRAMS....... NOT KEEP INCREASING TAXES... government do you hear me. I guess maybe not now but our voices will be heard on 04/15.
18They totally hear you, here in Sugarland, Hain.
19It is kind of interesting that we've heard forever about how the Dems are so good at grassroots and finally conservatives are doing something grassroots and it gets no attention!
20Grassroots? As in springing from the common people grassroots? Grassroots as in not nudged along by any group involving Dick Armey and Steve Forbes? Grassroots as in not all over Fox news with Fox news anchors signing up to be on hand? Grassroots as in Rick Santelli is suddenly doing all he can to distance himself from the movement making people wonder if he afraid of the common people?
21Love the teabags. I sent mine!
22teabags.... teabags... teabags...
College humor has ruined me forever. This whole time I was thinking of a different type of teabag.
23Now I have "It's Raining Men" stuck in my head.
Except it's "It's Raining Gays! Hallelujah, it's raining Gays!"
What is that lady trying to say about people changing how she lives her life? No one is forcing her to marry a lady.
24Yeah Steph, grassroots, you have NO IDEA the amount of work and effort local people are putting into this. Are you trying to say the supposed "grassroots" efforts of Obama on myspace and emailing and the under $50 contributions to his campaign that were plastered ALL OVER news sources and encouraged by the democrat party were not grassroot?
25Soooooo what you're saying is that it can't be grassroots because they actually got some famous people involved?
You mean how like MoveOn.org never has famous people around?
26I'm starting to understand that when grassroots is a dem cause or an Obama thing then its a great thing, but when it comes from the other side its a) not covered or b) not technically grass roots.
Good to know.
27" teabags.... teabags... teabags...
College humor has ruined me forever. This whole time I was thinking of a different type of teabag. "
You beat me to it Amy. I literally have not been able to stop giggling since this thread was posted.
28You know, it's that time of afternoon where I'm totally giddy. It's nearly time to go home and I am on the verge of low blood sugar.
29... and then I see a story about teabags. Best part of waking up!
Yea teabags do kinda only mean one thing....
and then I think of The State - "I wanna dip my balls in it!!!"
30YES!
31The best part of waking up are teabags in your cup?
32From NewAmericanTeaParty.com - "Who gets to blog?
You do, if you’re helping to organize one of these events locally. Email us, and you’ll be able to jump onto the blog."
And all the contacts on Facebook...
Yep, doesn't sound like grassroots to me!
33Double YES! YES!
34
35MoveOn got started then the famous people found them the next election cycle - the common people are doing the work for the tea parties, but the idea doesn't seem to have originated from them.
36Teabags!!!
37YAY!!!!
38NOW i get it!
39Now that's a teabag that i'd like to send in the mail to my representatives!
40
41Huh. This ad sounds like people lamenting over not being able to legally discriminate against gays. By the way, this ad is full of exaggerations, even lies.
The doctor in that is referencing a Supreme court case about a year ago in California where a doctor was sued for discriminating against gay patients. Nothing about marriage at all.
And regarding that Massachusetts mother?
42A man named David Parker, from Mass., filed a baseless lawsuit against a Lexington public school regarding this topic about a book on different families, including a same-sex headed one, and got verbally whipped by a federal judge for wasting tax payers' money and court resources.
I love that advert. I half-expected a chicken to come squaking across the screen going, "THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!"
43Thanks for the info faylinn!
44This ad is outrageous and just as disingenuous and misleading as the ads that ran for the Proposition 8 campaign here in California. I don't mind people disagreeing with me with an honest opinion. However, when you have an organization such as this who feels the need to brain storm misrepresentations and commit a character assassination if you will upon the gay community to make their case rather than just be straight up it's pathetic.
"they want to bring their issues into my life"
Actually I don't I just want to be left alone to live in freedom and equality just as much as you do.
"my freedom will be taken away"
Freedom being a word that encompasses everything that is free and then suggesting that heterosexuals will have their freedom taken away is intellectually dishonest and hands down some of the best fear mongering I've ever seen.
"I'm a Dr. and I have to choose between my faith and my job"
Does she think she's in an abortion ad? Did she walk into the wrong studio that day? How the hell is marriage between same sex couples gonna prevent a Dr. from providing medical care? Please don't tell me that she's requesting the right not to treat some one if their spouse happens to be of the same sex.
"punished by the government because I can't support"
Then protest that act of punishment and I'll support you but don't be so arrogant as to presume I'm not worthy of freedom and equality because you miss your federal privileges (not rights).
"I'm forced to stand by helplessly while my children are taught that same sex marriage is o.k."
If this is her issue than why not campaign to stop teaching marriage in public schools? I would support that too. I don't believe that marriage period has any business being taught in schools. Marriage is a family tradition and a personal choice but again you don't have to infringe on my equality to address that concern.
"they want to change the way I live"
No, I want to live just like you do. You can keep on living the way you do and make a little elbow room for the rest of us. Don't be so damn stingy.
The only storm that seems to be coming IMO are clouds seeded with ignorant disingenuous misrepresentations purposefully being used as tools of manipulation. How's that for Christian and family values? If this is the B.S. they want to represent then they have fallen far from the mark by becoming contrary to the very values they say they represent.
45
46Wow! I've seen some pink penis in my day but never one that big. And I was wondering what happened to all of my Darjeling.
47
hypno!
48Vermont made same sex marriage legal legislatively. California makes it illegal through a proposition changing the constitution. I applaud both as the will of the people. Each state should decide the position on same sex marraige the same way, through the legislative process, not by judicial fiat. Democracy is cumbersome at times, and slow at times, but over time it tends to get things right. The 18th amendment prohibited the sale of alcohol. It turned out to be a bad idea, and the 21st amendment corrected the error. Now each community decides on how available, if at all alcohol will be. If the concept of gay marriage is left up to the people, over time, it will be accepted as the norm, like alcohol. It also will happen without rancor because it is the will of the people. Like alcohol there will be segments of society that will condemn it's use, but so what, that is what democracy is all about. Just as I do not want you telling me if and what i drink. Do not tell me who I can and can not cohabit with. It is up to me to convince the rest of you that I am right. If i am right, over time i will.
49There is a town in WI that still bans alcohol sales within the city limits. It's a population of 7,000+, but it's one of the larger cities in that county.
Very well said grandpa.
