How come all stories here tend to read like this:
"President Obama found a cure for cancer today. Do you think it's a good thing that he's cost so many researchers their jobs?"

Jon Stewart is an entertainer with talented writers. He has his agenda and liberal audience that he serves very well, much like Hannity, Beck, etc. for conservatives. I have no doubt that the government, whether Republican or Democrat, wants to be larger and more intrusive in my life. In my book that has the danger of being tyranny.

For instance, is anyone not concerned why the government won't take back the TARP money from some banks? It has declined to accept $340 million in payments from banks in Louisiana, New York, Indiana and California. Why? By refusing repayment, the government can keep the leverage it bought with the bailouts. I think it is a small sign that reveal the administration's desire to seize control of the nation's financial system. Is that not tyranny? It is to me.

The problem with arguing this point with 56% (or so) of Americans is that they don't care about tyranny. They want more government control. They aren't going to recognize it as tyranny or whatever word you want to assign it. They voted for it and are getting it with Obama.

But 56% or so of the American people voted for Obama to get rid of an administration that spied on them, had people arrested for wearing opposition t-shirts to rallies, frustrated their right to know what their government was doing by stonewalling independent and congressional investigations; resisted requests for documents under the federal Freedom of Information Act; and detained people from around the world without charges... all actions worthy of the label 'tyranny' ahead of trying to clean up a corrupt banking system that plunged the country & the world into an economic crisis.

Pardon my language, but I sure as h-e-double hockey sticks believe that he and his administration are going to try to take away some of our liberties....sure it'll be in the name of the "greater good"...

You know as a more fiscally conservative lady I might not be happy with all the banking bailouts and the like. I'm sure not happy with Wall Street and the lack of regulations that allowed companies so massive to form in the first place. Its so easy to jump to say that he is socialist, when if McCain or Bush were in office they would be doing a lot of the same things for the economy.

Its easy to say Obama is doing too much, when actually he is 1) talking about 2) doing something about the problems that have plagued our country for decades. Healthcare, education, entitlement, etc.

I might not agree with everything Obama is doing, but generally I'd rather have him any day than the same old same Republicans. Maybe if the Republicans can get a platform together that actually addresses the problems in our country they will win more Congressional sway, but I don't see that happening any time soon, even if the public isn't happy with all the bailouts.

I'm curious, what liberties do you see him taking away?

I am conspiracy minded enough to think that the both Republicans and Democrats want more control over the people of this country. It's about power and control. The Republicans had it and abused it. Not to be outdone, the Democrats are now doing the same thing. Could the Dems have taken a different path? Sure they could of. You can paint the picture that Bush and his cronies were evil. I get that. But you still have to use the same brush for Obama and his party. It makes no sense to me to berate Bush for being evil and not consider the same for Obama. Nothing has changed. It was bad for Bush to do these things but because Obama and the Dems are in control all is OK now? nuh uh. That's just hypocritical.

You know for comedy shows, the Colbert Report and the Daily Shows have the most interesting guests. It was nice to hear from Jehan Sedat...maybe Oprah will take some hints.

Splork, so taking over insolvent banks is equal to stonewalling Congress, spying on Americans, lying to Americans, taking detainees... Sorry but as I know the huge differences between Obama's history and George Bush's history, there's no way that I would say Obama's intent is anywhere near as evil as "Bush and his cronies". Obama will make decisions I don't like in the future and mistakes, but there is nothing like the cynical intent in him that Bush brought to office.

You're right Jessie, they both mix in guests that you might otherwise only find on Cspan - there are a ton of books on my reading list thanks to Colbert!

You won't get me to justify Bush any more than you will get me to support Obama. Just because Bush did questionable things does not mean Obama is automatically right in the course of his actions.

Again I find our government intrusive and too big. The government (red and blue) want control and power. We have been on the path to our own brand of socialism/nationalism since Roosevelt...Entitlements, spending, taxing, big-bigger government, bailouts, land seizures, environmental agendas to prohibit capitalism and growth, political correctness, etc...all slowly infringing on our freedoms. It's sad and pathetic but an unfortunate evolution of a democracy apparently. Obama is doing nothing to stop it and from my interpretation of his policies he seems to be speeding up the statist agenda. 2010 and 2012 will determine if the country desires more government control or less socialism. The people have been given a huge bite of more spending, wealth distribution and borrowing. Guess we'll find out if they puke it up or swallow and ask for more.

I wonder why it is that Jon Stewart can actually get to the truth of the matter when CNN, MSNBC and even Faux news can't. He's brilliant. Bill O and Rush are pretty funny but not in the same way. Poor UnDave, sour grapes taste bad don't they. Kinda bitter?
