Michelle Obama arrived in Washington this morning after she left Europe early to be home in time to start Sasha and Malia's school week. Overall, her first European tour was a success, with the exception of that fateful hug with the queen mum. Though Buckingham Palace said the first lady did not err because the only rule is to be polite, respectful, and courteous, it's, of course, just being polite. There are rules — old-fashioned and unspoken, but rules nonetheless. Think you'd know what to do? Find out with my quiz.

Your score: 100%
The average score is 3.3 or 65%
But I'm listed at 20%?
3Apparently it's teasing us Lili - we're given our due up there now. All those years of etiquette training paid off!
44/5
5I read an article that discussed most of the questions a few days ago.
6Jeez I wouldn't want to meet her anyway
7I think it'd be kind of cool to meet her, then start changing everything around to suit YOU - 'please m'am, move to my left - and if you would please keep your gaze no higher than my nose that would be best for all. Of course you should sit first m'am, but I will be bouncing up and down on the sofa throughout our conversation.'
8Steph = "ugly American"?
9Not at all, I'm fabulously good looking!
10I still don't get the idea of royalty in this day and age...especially royalty that is only ceremonial.
11
12Whoops, I picked the "too formal" choices.
13it's our american culture to be warm in this way, perhaps the real issue here (if there even is one, it doesn't sound like it to me, just speculation and eveyone making such a huge deal out of it) is ethnocentrism... we should allow for all leaders (and thier spouses) to express esteem according to their own culture, and respect it as such. there is no need to be offended here.
14for a queen b, i didnt score very well...gs, i thought you were gone forever!
15I almost was! But I came back!
16
Steph!
17Just give her a piece of my peach cobler, she'll be puddy in my hands.
18Citizen- Did you refer to the Queen as the "queen mum"? The queen mum died in 2002.
19poissondujour, you took the words out of my mouth!
204/5...not too shabby!
21I thought I knew this stuff, but I got 2 wrong.
22Great S, I erred on the side of too formal, too. Which I imagine would be fine if the occasion arose.
Are there rules like this for meeting our president?
23Modus - I'd be willing to bet there are rules for meeting the President.
GS - the baby is adorable! Congrats! I want to love him and hug him and squeeze him and call him George.
24Yay, 5/5!
And Modus, if there aren't specific rules, there are at least expectations
- do you remember when that volleyball team wore flip flops?
Big story du jour!
25Hey GS that's the finest looking bun out of the oven I've ever seen! God has it been that long, I remember when you announced you were expecting.
26I too erred on the side of being too formal. But seriously, if its too formal for the queen....then where are those kind of manners practiced?
27I'm disappointed to see that a curtsy is no longer required ...I have quite a nice curtsy, if I do say so myself.
28My parents taught us to curtsy when we were introduced to grown-ups, but we all rebelled before we were ten. Now my knees pop, so it would just be embarrassing.
29I don't think you can't curtsy if you're not from the UK, it's just not required. So, have at it, valancy! I would love to witness a room full of people leaving a party thrown by the queen and trying to back out the door so they don't turn on her. Hilarious.
30Well, the short people could use the tall ones for cover.
31Thank you Hypno! And the time just flew by didn't it? Every day seems to get shorter and shorter.
325/5 - I don't know how I got them all right...
33The Queen always seems so darn stiff. I wouldn't want to meet with her for a long period of time.
34Jessie, others would say regal, not stiff. Meeting the Queen would be so far down on my "to do" list, that it would probably take three normal lifetimes to get to it.
35I said give her a fist bump, wtf I thought that was etiquette for leaders of countries.
Just please don't give her an IPOD again mr president. huge insult.
