When It Rains, It Pours, but Does It?

After settling into an adult relationship with Carol, a pilot who's never in town but makes up for it by being Matt Damon, things are really looking up for old Liz Lemon on 30 Rock.

Now she's basking in a postcoital glow, the one achieved through hotel sex with a man who spends 20 hours a week 30,000 feet in the air. Her new confidence and ambitious wardrobe choices have construction workers, corner bums, and TGS editors turning heads.

The message? "When it rains, it pours." In other words, men come in droves once you're off the market. But is it true? Or, is it just another Lizism walking the line between good satire and bad stereotypes?

I think it has to do with how you feel when you are with someone/in a relationship. I think a new relationship or a big change to an old one (getting engaged/married for example) produces a big spike in self confidence... and I think people flirt more when they feel more attractive. I also know women that dress very differently based on whether or not they are single. Not saying everyone does this, but I have a friend who goes out (yes, to bars and things) in sweats and crocs with no makeup on when she is single. Not saying you have to look like a wh*re to get a guy, but no one wants to be around you when you are too depressed to even put on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt to go out. So I think its a self-perpetuating cycle... if you feel more attractive, you kind of broadcast that to the world, which in turn makes you look more attractive.

I've found it to be true in the past and even in my current situation. I was single for over a year, no prospects, no one I found interesting. Recently, I started dating a really great guy and since I've had 2 others and an ex ask me out. Why do they all show up at once?

It's always been true for me at least when I'm single... I'll go through a dry spell where I don't meet even one remotely interesting guy, but then as soon as someone gets my attention it seems like there are too many to choose from. I don't notice it as much when I'm actually in a relationship, but that could be just because I go out a lot more with my boyfriend than I do without.

Oh it's definitely true! I've always said that the only thing you need to get a date, is to already have one...lol Seriously, I have FAR more guys ask me out and flirt when I'm attached then when I'm not...it's crazy!

I think there’s more truth than not to it. Obviously the show exaggerates, and I don’t know about a ‘post-coital glow’ being the cause, but I usually get more attention when I’m involved than when I’m not.
