I love Demetri Martin's bit about how adding the word "ladies" to the end of a sentence automatically makes you sound like a creep. I admit, the word "ladies" often makes me cringe, though some of my guy friends seem to think it's classy. I guess it's better than referring to a group of women as "girls" or "my b*tches!" . . . but still. What say you?

1It depends on who's saying it. Like, if I'm out with the girls, someone might say, "Let's get another round, ladies!", and that's fine, but generally I don't like it coming from men. I especially dislike it when someone greets me saying, "Hi, lady." What, did you forget my name?
2I am at the age where being called a lady is what I expect I guess.....so, I don't understand the creepiness at all.
3I don't mind men saying 'ladies'. What bothers the crap out of me is when they refer to women as 'females.' It sounds so degrading. I'll take 'ladies' over 'female' any day!
4I like ladies, but only when said by a woman (or by a dude who's clearly jokingly doing the sleazy "ladies" thing). I'm with khameel; I cannot STAND "females." So gross.
5I think it depends on how you say it. Demetri Martin's got the creepy down, and I think the pause is very important.
I call groups of women 'ladies' when I'm waiting tables. This seems to help women realize that I'm talking to them. Other than that, I don't really call people ladies and it doesn't bother me when men do it.
6Though the term "ladies" is a bit antiquated and does sound a bit slimy coming from guys-- when women use it, it's seen as classy. It's just like other labels we have. Only certain people can say them without sounding nasty or offensive. This did make me giggle though.
