Glenn Beck is all over the place these days, which means either his overdramatic performance speaks to Americans or that people love to watch a train wreck, or both!
This week the New York Times called Beck "Fox News’s mad, apocalyptic, tearful rising star." Salon turned Beck's broadcasts into poems. One reads: "Believe in something. Even if it's wrong."
Yesterday on Morning Joe, fellow conservative Joe Scarborough pondered whether Glenn Beck is really parodying Stephen Colbert parodying Bill O'Reilly. If so — no wonder Beck's show is number two on Fox. Colbert and O'Reilly are ratings machines.

How about 'No, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than watch him' as an option?
1I think we all know how this vote is going to go...
2"How about 'No, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than watch him' as an option?" Wow, that's pretty extreme. I don't think I'd go that far for any commentator...
Personally, though, I like the guy. I don't get to listen to him that often b/c he's on while I'm at work, but I did catch a little of his show today. He was saying that people should check the facts on the shows they watch and not just become mindless zombies who take what the media says as gospel. I like that.
3Eh, I find him kind of annoying. He voice and mannerisms just annoy me, but hey if other people like him, more power to him!
He can get all proud of himself when HE'S #1 for 100 months!
4How about 'No, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than watch him' as an option? ...Wow, that's pretty narrow minded too or should I have said closed minded.
5Truth is pretty hard to come by in our media driven culture...whether you love or hate the guy he tells it how it is. What non-FoxNews channel anchor is as hard hitting on what's really happening in our nation and world?
OH, sorry. I forgot to put quotation marks around stephley's LIBERAL(ly opinionated) words...I don't want anyone to mistake them for my own.
6
7Who?
8It's not close minded it's her opinion she doesn't like him. I find him annoying and dramatic almost hysterical, sorry but the loud voice and the righteous anger is pretty annoying, i just want to pass him some smelling salts, don't waste my time on anything but BBC where the reporters and journalists and anchors or whatever they are these days actually do their job and voice their opinions in a calm manner. And he is on FOX now isn't he?
9"sorry but the loud voice and the righteous anger is pretty annoying"
I agree, Rachel Maddow is very annoying.
10"What non-FoxNews channel anchor is as hard hitting on what's really happening in our nation and world?"
What hard-hitting news anchor says of himself: "...he says he is an entertainer. “I’m a rodeo clown,” he said in an interview, adding with a coy smile, “It takes great skill.”
11He's a low-rent Jon Stewart.
I used to watch Glenn Beck more when he was on the Headline News (CNN). Right now, rarely. He has changed quite a bit, that's just my pov (I kind of think he resembles O'Reilly now), then again, I never tune in his show too long these days, maybe like 2-5 minutes then I'm doing something else. So maybe he's not changed that much.
12There are some of his views I agree with, and sometimes I just want to shake and yell at him LOL. But there are funny moments from him too though. I guess I'm ok with the guy as a host of an opinion show.
Unfortunately UnDave I am one liberal who is not sold on American wannabe journalists, I think CNN is disgraceful, FOX is rubbish and anything else is just sensationalism. I'm more old school like Christiane Amanpour old school, you know people who present the facts and let them do the talking. I like NEWS, not opinions, if these guys know how to run America why aren't they standing for election? Too many people claiming they know what is right and not enough shutting up on both sides
13Its NOT about being RIGHT...Its about being HONEST. I appreciate someone that covers stories the rest of the news shows are sweeping under the rug, and opinions are up to the person watching to form...we don't need Glenn Beck thinking for us we need him to make us think.
14"If these guys know how to run America why aren't they standing for election?" =lack of funding AND Americas want wannabe leaders our most recent election proved that.
I think Jon Stewart is a low rent anybody.
But I do like how the BBC people don't talk over each other, when it all disintegarates into a shouting match, I hate that!
15Right emo- wat you may deem as honest someone else may deem as not honest. And if you need someone to make you think instead of thinking for yourself then I think you have problems(not you personally but those who do)., actually that's the problem with a lot of people these days thinking that everything they hear on some person's show is the gospel.
16hausfrau I should be working for the BBC honestly this is the third time I am saying this but that is what news should be, if you have ever watched Hardtalk that is journalism at its best. Can't live without it, if I had to watch one channel for the rest of my life that would be it.
17I only get BBC America and I hate it because they play Gordon Ramsay all day and I hate that guy! I wish they would play more news than just at night.
18I don't usually get to watch Beck because of the time he comes on but I did catch an episode that was re-aired and he gave the AG of CT hell about the AIG bonuses. The guy was stuttering and couldn't answer hardly any of Beck's questions. I enjoyed watching what little bit I saw.
19Beck is a joke. Always has been.
20as are you liliblu as are you.
21
22emo_stacer I'm entitled to my opinion. I don't need Glen Beck to make me think. Nor do I need your opinion of me. Would you like a list of the reasons why I find Glen Beck to be a joke? Why don't you tell me what Glen Beck makes you think about.
23n.zom200 I agree w/your comments on the BBC.
24
someone took a whole bottle of the haterade, just be sure that if you dish it you can take
it, cos we don't want anyone to get upset now..... Hehehe Haus we have BBC Canada here and it is terrible I tell you terrible we get rubbish shows. But we have the BBC news channel which
makes up for the horrid Canadian programming. Back home we have BBC Prime and the BBC news channel which totally rock as it's up to date and has fabulous shows and comedies too.
25sure..a list would be great...then i'll list which of the 9 (Beck) principles your breaking with your list. *LOL*, Liliblu.
26emo, it's okay if she doesn't like him. Everyone's entitled.
27So you follow the "9 (Beck)principles"?
28The 9 Beck Principles sounds like a new church!
29Race Emost DAGGER!
30Oooh, a Worshipper!
31Here are the 9 Beck Principles:
By Glenn Beck
America, I want to talk straight to you now.
There is a lot of bad news out there. Our economy is tanking and does not show signs of improving. People are losing their jobs 500 million a month according to Nancy Pelosi and there are more cuts on the way.
People around the world are taking to the streets. Our government responds to problem with "bailouts." When you reach out to them you get no response while Ponzi scheme crooks get away with millions and tax cheats get promotions.
Terrorists are on the run, and you just want to keep your family safe.
It is enough to make you want to just give up!
But I am here to tell you something important: You are not alone, and if you believe in a majority of these nine principles then keep watching because I am going to prove it to you to.
1. America is good place, not perfect, but good.
2. I believe in God and He is the center of my life.
3. I must try to be a better, more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness and not a guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have. I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree or share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them. They answer to me.
32I agree about the entitlement of your opinion, but I also think I have to agree with your opinion either.
33No, I'm not part of any Beck church and the principals are not something you follow they aren't commandments.
>add "the right" between have and to and add "not" between to and agree.
34I really screwed that comment up.
guess i cant watch Beck's show and type at the same time.
35No you don't have to agree with the opinion emo but you can be nice and what you said to lili wasn't very nice
36ok, your right. my apologies...part of playing nice is being respectful.
37I do not watch, it is on TV at a inconvenient time. I sometimes get the last 5 minutes, when I try to watch the news. He is hyper I agree. If he can sustain the growth that he has had in a remarkably short time, he will be bigger then O'Reilly. Only time will tell. if he is a flash in the pan we will know no later then 6 months from now. It would be remarkable if he ended up the "Rush Limbaugh" of cable TV.
38stephley...based on your avatar I see I have the right to agree w/principal #4, but you should follow principal #9 so that you gain that right.
so being a worshiper could cause a lot of changes for a lot of causes.
39I watched when he had that 9 principles thing, I actually agree with most of those principles. I think those are really good principles.
40One reason I find Beck to be joke is that he claimed that UAW workers make $154 an hour if you add in benifits. This is completely false. He did not say where he got his information. But I suspect he was sitting on the source.
41liliblu, last analyses I saw was $70/hour salary and fringe combined.
42Hmm. I don't watch him, but I don't see a problem with those nine principles. While I believe in God, I don't think that the rest of those principles require you to do so, so no big deal if you don't. Why would people have a problem with those?
43Grandpa it's closer to $55 with benifits. Japanese automakers pay about $46 with benifits.
44I used to watch him on CNN and I did watch him on fox, but I just got a new job, so now that I am commuting again I can't watch it at 5.
I really like Glenn Beck. I think he is very funny, and while I still don't always agree with all of his opinions, I still watched the show. He is very grateful to be on Fox. I think CNN silenced him a lot of what he wanted to say.
45I can not stand Beck for the same reason I can't stand Nancy Grace, he's drama queen. He eats mellow drama for breakfast.
46liliblu, I found out how the $70 figure was arrived at. The automakers arrived at the $70+ figure by adding up all the costs associated with providing wages and benefits to current and retired workers and dividing the total by the number of hours worked by current employees.
47So, current employees are carrying the burden of their retired predecessors. It is important to financial analysts, stock, an bond holders, and most importantly it is part of the cost of producing a car. I think Obama is going to let GM go into bankruptcy, so some bankruptcy judge can take the hit for cutting wages and benefits, as well as retirees rather ten the Administration. This kind of ploy is used most often in cases like base closings. No one wants the blame for closing a base, particularly the elected politicians of the effected state. A "commission" is formed, they do the dirty work, the politicians dodge a bullet.
48I don't agree with all of his opinions, but I like Glenn Beck. Fox lets him do his own thing and he is a REAL person on air.
49Grandpa where did you see these figures? I have found several sources that put the amount at $55 per hour with benifits. But I don not see your $70 figure anywhere.
