Mailboxes wait in limbo, or outside a San Francisco mail sort center, until their fate is determined. The US Postal Service showed up on the floor of Congress Wednesday, mailbags open for bailout change. Cutting service and charging for secure(r) email seem increasingly likely since May's ¢2 stamp hike (from ¢42 to ¢44) won't be enough to stop USPS from going bankrupt by the year's end.

I'm just being picky or I might be wrong but doesn't the cent symbol go after the number?
1It is divinelight.
I love the Letters to Santa mailbox. I've never seen one before!
2We have one outside of a toystore in our town every year. It goes up the day after thanksgiving and they even mail you a letter back from Santa. It's very cute.
3Isn't this just another government organization that needs to be revamped and modernized? Is it wrong to say I think private mail shouldgo under if it can't at least break even?
4Personally I have never used UPS,FedEx etc. to send things express and in twenty years I can honestly say I've had good luck witht the post office. As an Exec. Assis. on the job had the co. I worked for use them as well not a problem.
They've actually expanded their services over the years and a lot of people don't know that they can schedule mail pick ups on line in most urban/suburban areas. You don't have to go stand in a long line and disrupt your day. The USPS problem is that they suck at marketing. There is no reason they can not compete with prvt. co. they just need to get the word out.
5I think the USPS services are wonderful. However do they offer the special rates for businesses that UPS and FedEx do? I know as just a personal consumer they are usually cheaper and more efficient, imo. I prefer Priority mail over most other methods.
6I wish more companies used them- they ship to Hawaii for the same rate as anywhere in mainland- instead of charging an arm and leg like the other postal companies do. Or I cannot even order from some businesses as they will not ship to Hawaii, when they would just need to ship it in a priority box
