The Whip was in the house last night at Britney Spears's concert in Washington DC. Republican House Minority Whip Eric Cantor reportedly skipped Obama's press conference last night because Britney Spears came to town! He headed to the concert instead.
Cantor's not the only American who tuned out last night. Obama's ratings slipped from his previous presser. However, Cantor recently criticized the president for holding a four-hour meeting on health care, instead of focusing 100 percent of his time on the economic emergency.
The revelation that Cantor's a Britney fan might cause many to scratch their heads and perhaps call Cantor a hypocrite. Oops!

He's a hypocrite for being a Britney fan? I'm confused...
1Why am I not surprised that Cantor's a Britney fan?
2So Britney Spears didn't watch the press conference?! What an irresponsible American she has become.
3Hey, not fair - she was stimulating the economy, or something like that...Cantor maybe?
4they'd call him that because he criticized obama for not spending all of his time on the economy, when he "didn't have time" to go to the press conference. pretty big stretch, even for me.
5You're right Steph, if we are giving credit for stimulating things, then Britney should get a lot of credit!
6"they'd call him that because he criticized obama for not spending all of his time on the economy, when he "didn't have time" to go to the press conference. pretty big stretch, even for me."
Yes, it does seem like a stretch to compare the presidents time management to the time management of the House minority Whip...
7Hee hee I wonder if he bought one of those Britney faux tattoo-sleeve tour t-shirts?
I say whatever, he could've TiVoed POTUS' presser and watched in the morning. But I guarantee TicketMaster or LiveNation wasn't gonna refund the Minority Whip's tickets just cause the POTUS spoke.
Plus, was the Minority Whip getting paid to watch the POTUS? I mean if he was getting paid and he skipped out of work then - dock his pay, give him a written reprimand.
If he was off but his lame-o boss (us) expected him to work off-the-clock then by all means he was within his rights to skip the conference and enjoy his free time with the lipsyncomatic.
8Maybe if Cantor had a seat at the budget process table, you might have had a point, snarky
9Grandpa how'd you learn my real name? Snarky McSnark actually Snarky Sunshine McSnark.
10Merry Sunshine, you know grandpa's know everything
11Whoop dee doo! So? Eh.
12I didn't watch too, was watching HGTV and sometimes watching Star Trek movie on AMC.
But of course, I can catch up later on CNN, MSNBC, Foxnetwork, BET that kept replaying it almost all through the night.
That Britney, she's toxic!
13Well if Cantor is of a certain persuasion I can say that as a man of that persuasion he's probably just like all the other tiara wearing Britney fans and wouldn't miss it if his house was burning down. I am not a Britney fan btw but you will find at a Madonna concert.
14She certainly is a troubled young lady, janneth.
15My sis-in-law and niece went to the DC show and she said Britney kicked butt. She says she's now a closet Britney fan. I would rather watch Britney show than another press conference.
16Wow. Love the commentary across the Internet over this one. Let's see, Dems say he shouldn't be there because he should have been working for the people. Really? What exactly should he have been doing at 8pm at night when the chambers were closed? Watching some tired press conference that he could have read at the breakfast table the next day? Why is it inappropriate to go to a concert performed by a pop performer in her late 20's? If you like pop music, my understanding a Britney Spears concert is entertaining. People need to check their hate on this one. I realize that the blood sport is wordsmithing people to death on the Internet. But he had zero obligation to sit through the press conference. Obama gives one like every 4 hours. This one just happened to be on prime time TV to gain support for his deficit spending.
17This is his excuse:
""I don't know why that's an issue whatsoever," said the House Minority Whip. "There was a concert and I had a political event at that concert. Look, that is why I was there."
What "Political Event" takes place at a Britney concert? I didn't really care about this story, but his excuse is just ABSURD. Or disturbing, take your pick.
18I have to say my book was much more interesting than Obamas press conference.
19why does he even need an excuse to go to a concert?
20and you can make a "political event" out of anything. Just ask all of the politicians who fly their families around on planes paid for by taxpayers.
21"I say whatever, he could've TiVoed POTUS' presser and watched in the morning. But I guarantee TicketMaster or LiveNation wasn't gonna refund the Minority Whip's tickets just cause the POTUS spoke."
Exactly.
22I have no problem with Cantor going to a concert while he and others insist that Obama should focus entirely on the economy - the less Cantor has to do with that, the better.
23I can understand skipping an Obama press conference...after all, the man's everywhere these days. But for a Britney Spears concert? Not me.
24Ridiculous. So he has bad taste in music.
