I was flipping through The Economist this weekend when I read about a start-up company that plans to appeal to patriotism. My American Jobs plans to certify products that are made by American labor and with American materials.
The Federal Trade Commission offers the "Made in America" label for goods that meet its criteria, but My American Jobs will offer fancier labels. Each qualifying product will get a three, four, or five star rating. A complicated standards guideline is available on its website.
The company says: "American economic stability, growth and prosperity rests squarely on the shoulders of American companies, their employees and products." Do you agree? Would you pay more for that guarantee?

I think the website should tell who is behind MyAmericanJobs and why they are qualified to be making these determinations. Right now, I'm thinking they're two guys with a great idea to make themselves some money.
1I like the idea, but isn't everything labeled with where it's made anyways?
2Things are labeled but the legal requirements for 'made in America' can be loose.
But the more I read this company's website, the less I trust that they're a serious, ready to go, business.
3Yes, I love the idea.
4I never thought about looking into the credentials.
5I would pay 5 % more, but no more than that. I have to worry about my own pocket book.
6I like the idea. I've thought of similar to promote small town businesses. Or at least my own small town, and the others close to it.
7Personally, I like the idea. I would pay more (not excessively) to know that what I have purchased was made my American workers. As one person already said…I have to watch my pocket book too.
I checked out the website and found it to be informative. There is a FAQ that answered most of the questions that I had.
To comment on stephley response….don’t all great ideas come from someone trying to make money. If this good idea translates into creating or maintaining US jobs than what more could you ask for?
I hope they are successful and I start seeing their logo on products. I will be looking for it.
