Something's a-brewin' in the world of masculinity. It's called the "bromance," and it's an attempt by straight men to be friends without being all gay about it. Unfortunately, it's kind of homophobic, and it's spawned an insulting credo, "Bros before hos," which pits girlfriends as the bromance's public enemy number one. Clearly, men have a yearning to be close, outside of a football field or war zone, so the idea of bromances is a step in the right direction. But do men have to be jerks and diss women and gay dudes in the process? (Incidentally, bromance culture has blown up in large part because of Judd Apatow, whose films, including Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, and Pineapple Express, should have their own genre — the Brom-Com, or Bromantic Comedy.) So tell me, what do you make of the new bromance culture?

You totally make a good point... although I'm looking forward to seeing this new Brom-Com and have enjoyed the other recent movies in this genre, the homophobe and girl-dissing tenancies should not be encouraged. I think the underlying message among all of these movies is that all of your relationships are important. Those with hoes and those with bros should be equal, though.

2I love all these movies and I think that the "bros before hos" thing is hilarious - most guys are just kidding about it. And we ladies know that, when push comes to shove, the hos are the bosses! : )

4"Bro's before Ho's" isn't a new concept, its been rolling since the beginning of time. The only difference is, its seems more feminine now, and a little less manly. Its so cute!
5I've always taken "bros before hos" to mean that one should put their friends before some chick who has only been around for a short time and will be leaving soon versus friends who have had your back for years. Obviously this changes as either the "proves herself" as being loyal and worthy.
6And am I the only one who had heard the term "chicks before d*cks"?? (means the same things as "bros before hos" btw)
I've never taken offense to either saying nor did I ever find the term "bromance" homophobic - but maybe that's just me not being over politically correct or something...take it for what it is and take the movies for what they are and then sit back and laugh
