I am glad Obama is removing that ban. Government should not get in the way of science. I think it should be up to the woman who donated those embryos to decide what is done with them.

Great paragraphs. Obama is already out of touch, after being "in touch" with the common man while trying to get elected, and after promising that his "stimulus bill" will do the job, he has to come back and ask for more money. Doesn't that pretty much say his first bill failed to do the job he said it would do? I know that he can spin this and say it was Bush's fault, but how many "woopsies" should we give a man before saying he shouldn't be working on an unlimited budget?

So sad about that pastor. I feel for his congregation.

I'm not surprised Fritzl is writing a book. It will probably make loads of money if it gets published. Reminds me of Issei Sagawa, a Japanese man who killed and cannibalized a Dutch woman. He didn't go to prison - he went to a mental institution for 15 months, he was free to leave whenever he wished. After he left he became somewhat of a celebrity in Japan, he wrote a few books I think and, here's the really sick part, he's now a noted FOOD CRITIC.

The story about the pastor really is horrific. That poor man, and all the people at the service! I can only imagine how terrified all those people (and their children!) must still be.

I am glad that Obama is re-opening the door to allow for more funding for stem cell research. I think the potential benefits could be huge.

And from what I've seen, the stem cells from adults are much more affective than embryos. I'm really against this step.

I won't stop working at a bank because there's a chance some freak will try an armed robbery, and I refuse to stop going to church because of the slim chance someone might try to hurt me for it. I would be willingly giving up my freedom and replacing it with irrational fear.

Jazz, that's an interesting article, but I wonder if the headline is really accurate. Even if there is another way to get cells that will function similarly, it sounds as if the process of altering those skin cells is involved, somewhat complicated, and possibly pretty expensive. If the cost and time consumption is significantly higher, it seems like most researchers will still want to go the embryonic stem cell route.

Obviously I'm not a biologist, so I'm just musing, but I'd like to hear an opinion about that from somebody who understands it better.

Michelann, if you are growing an organ, and can use skin cells from the patient, you eliminate the chance of rejection, and those life long drugs that are necessary to prevent rejection are unnecessary.
