For the last nine years Oprah has been a regular face and figure at the grocery store check-out line. The media mogul has been the sole cover girl on O magazine since its inception. But the upcoming April issue is a different story — Oprah is sharing(!) with First Lady Michelle Obama.
In the issue, which hits newsstands March 17, Michelle dishes on her new life in the White House. Here are some highlights:
- On her first weekend in the White House: Well, we still had family here, so it was almost like a wedding. A huge, very complicated wedding. The last visitors didn't leave until Sunday. And then the first Monday was kind of weird. You know: Now we live here, and Barack is getting up and going to work, and it's just us. This is our home now.
- On who the White House really belongs to: When you go out and come back, especially at night, with all the white lights on — it's just beautiful. We feel privileged, and we feel a responsibility to make it feel like the people's house. We have the good fortune of being able to sleep here, but this house belongs to America.
Will you encourage Oprah to share more by picking up this issue?

No, I won't be buying Oprah's magazine.
1she has shared it with her dogs before.
I stopped watching and buying into Oprahs empire 15 years ago.
WHy is this news btw, and not on another sugar site like Casa, or Giggle?
2Yeah, I left the Oprah bandwagon a long time ago.
3But everybody please take note that Oprah does not use her show, magazine, or fame as a political platform!
4"Will you encourage Oprah to share more by picking up this issue?"
5Kind of a weird question.
I'd buy the magazine to read more, not to encourage Oprah and I don't feel a need for regular updates.
I hardly ever buy this magazine...Im not sure I'd do it because she decided to share the cover this time.
I have to say that Michelle looks completely flawless on that cover!
6I'm fascinated by Michelle Obama and might thumb through the issue. Not sure if you'd call that encouraging Oprah.
7I've never bought O's magazine, so I doubt I'll be starting now.
8Is she wearing clear plastic? Really?
9TS, it does look like something you might buy at Claire's, but I think it kind of works!
10Love her outfit. Again. Springy cover, nice.
11Nah, I don't buy Oprah's magazines. But it's nice she's finally learned how to share!
12Hate the belt, but her body looks amazing.
And whenever she speaks, I always get the feeling this woman will make a great politician someday...not that being first lady is not a political position anyways.
13Does anyone else think that this is an absolutely terrible picture of Oprah? Also, I love Michelle Obama, but the praying hands are a bit much.
14You're right KS, Oprah looks pretty awful and her dress looks uncomfortably tight.
15I love that description of it being like post-wedding! I can completely understand.
16Looks like a candid shot
17Oprah looks short and awkward.
18And next month I would bet the little bit of life savings I have left that Oprah will not be sharing her cover with Sarah Palin - but she should. This is one magazine I will not be buying. And to boot, I canceled my Vogue subscription after seeing that lady on the cover - not what I would call high fashion anything.
19I don't really see a direct comparison between Sarah Palin and Michelle Obama except that they are both women, but I don't think Oprah would put Sarah Palin on the magazine cover.
20Why would she put Palin on the cover?
21Equal Time?
22Well she could do it to back up her own "i'm not using my platform for politics" BS by at least giving equal time.
But its her magazine. She should do whatever she wants. Anyone who is getting their political info from her needs to get their head checked anyways.
23Obama is not running for the office. He is now the President of the United States. This is an interview with the first lady. What about the article is political?
24Lili, are you joking? She's the first lady, married to the president, it's inherently political.
25Spring-y Easter colors.
26Oprah needs a trip to the eye doctor. How else to explain her allowing that photo of her to go public?
Really?
27I wouldn't have thought that if I read an article on Laura Bush encouraging kids to read in Good Housekeeping. Obama holds the office of U.S. president, Michelle's talking about living in the White House, the people's house. That's inherently American, not necessarily political.
#27 is to # 25: I'm not questioning Janneth's concern for Oprah's eyesight.
28The first lady is a sort of ambassador to the American people from the president. Promoting her promotes the president.
29Michelle Obama looks great. I think its wonderful that she wears clothing that I could see myself wearing and might be able to afford. I love what she's wearing on this cover. I have never bought O mag and probably won't, but I like seeing the First Lady on covers. Good role model in a lot of ways. I fail to see why on earth Oprah would consider putting Sarah Palin on her cover, she didn't win anything.
30IF I was to buy this magazine (which I probably won't), it would be because of Michelle, not because of Oprah. Michelle should come out with her own magazine - sort of an academic, inspirational magazine geared at young women...just throwing it out there.
31No and no. I don't care about Michelle and I could care even LESS about Oprah. Oprah is such a suck up to the Obamas, it's really tiresome.
32I don't buy Oprah's magazine. Period. Michelle Obama on the cover does not make me want to buy it. At most I might pick it up at the bookstore and flip through it, but nope, not buying.
33Look its two of the seven horses of the apocalypse on the cover of a magazine!
34Until I read this article I was unaware that Oprah was the only person to appear on the cover of her magazine. Kinda narcissistic if you ask me (which you haven’t).
35I think Oprah being on every cover of her mag reeks of narcissism. And her dress reminds me of June Cleaver. Where's the Beav???
36Ha, GP. I didn't read your comment before posting mine. Great minds...
