Yesterday Sasha and Malia came home to find a fancy new swing set just outside dad's Oval Office. They "squealed with delight," when they saw it, "for almost an hour."
The bling set includes a picnic table with brass plates, etched with the names of the 44 US presidents. But the Chicago Tribune wants us to know the Obamas did not make the most lavish choice. While it includes four swings, a slide, a fort, and a climbing wall, it lacks the spiral sides, roomy lofts, and towering tents other, more decadent, sets boast.
I'd be excited if it was one swing tied from a tree (fine, that was me). I'm just waiting for pictures of the girls playing through the long afternoons daylight savings this weekend (you're welcome) will bring.

Sasha and Malia are swing set.
1I wish I could afford that for my kids....
2Awww - how cool is it that there are children young enough to play on something like this in the White House again? Ok it has nothing to do with the issues or what I agree with or don't agree with in our Commander in Chief, but this is just so cute. I love that the table has the Presidents names on it and I'm hoping it can be added to for years to come.
3Can I set up a play date for my children? They'd love that set.
4they seem kind of old for a swing set, i though the oldest was like 12 or something?
5Sasha's definitely not too old and Malia has another year or two, and even then she'll sneak out when no one's looking or when she can believably claim she was mostly there to watch Sasha.
6I wish I had something like this as a kid. Dang.
7If they did get the more "lavish" set who cares?
I STILL play on those things, so you are never ever too old!
8I still miss my old tire swing. I don't 8 and 10 is too old for a set like this.
9hausfrau, I thought the same thing. We had a swing set and I was done with it by when I was 10.
10i guess i got my swing set young because i was done with it by the time i was their age. i still played on it occasionally but not very often.
i had one of those metal sets that pretty much rusted into a solid piece, remember those? with the see saw type swing? i remember how it would creak like crazy. looking back now it looks like a tetnus shot waiting to happen.
11"sign"...wish it was me....
12I love swing sets. I still make a beehive for them whenever I go to a park.
Don't be surprise to find me on the monkey bars too ; )
13Maybe he didn't install this for his children, but as an ironic monument to the highs and lows of the economy of this nation.
14I thought they were too old, too. At least one of them, anyway. The question is, can they pay their mortgage on their fort? If not, I think Obama has them covered.
15I always make my bf push me on a swing whenever we're near a park. You're never too old for that.
16I only thought, who cares?
17I would have LOVED this as a kid!
18Is this news? Should all of the presents that Malia and Sasha get be a headline on cnn.com? I'd expect this to be gossip column fodder...
Thanks for the DST reminder, Citizen!! I completely forgot -yay for spring!
19I'd have killed for that...and a front lawn big enough for it.
20How fun!
21Seeing that swing set brought back the most vivid memories of my child hood, good ones. I still go to the park at night and sit on the swing when I need to reflect I honestly do my best thinking there. I go at night to make sure there's not children around don't want any one getting the wrong idea, lol.
22This is just like our swing set! It barely gets used though and my sisters are younger than Sasha and Malia. But I won't lie, I've played on it more than a few times.
23It's a great set, I'll give them that, but I think I had just as much fun on the one we had when I was a kid, and it wasn't 1/4 that size
24I think it's big because they don't want the kids all over the place. I wish I had one now! Too cute!!!!!
25It looks small for them. Like the swings aren't high enough to be much fun, same with the rest.
Also, Citizen, it's Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight Savings Time. That always bugs me.
26True, public playgrounds have high swings and ladders for kids to go nuts and bang themselves up on. Daddys don't buy those for their little girls.
27What a sweet thing to do. It isn't as though the kids can just run down to the neighborhood park. I wouldn't have blamed them if they had purchased a more extravagant one
28I don't know what ya'll are talking about! Swings are good fun at any age. Whenever I play with my nephews I love getting on the swings! It is so much fun to feel the wind in your hair, soaring through the sky! You are never too old to swing!
29I would've loved to have seen Obama putting this together, especially after seeing my bro-in-law put up a similar one in his back yard. Now THAT was comedy!
30This looks like the latest and greatest swingset from Costco. And as UnDave35 said, they are not easy to put together!
31I wonder how hard it is for those poor girls to get "play dates". The white house is very much a "golden cage"
32OMG whatever. And who cares that they didn't get the more expensive one? Are they supposed to make us believe the Obamas are regular people like us who just go around buying playground sets for their kids? Come on now, we all know better!
