I'm not a huge fan of Burris or Blagovich, but if Burris can clear himself of the charges, I say let him have at it.

"Something tells me you're in trouble if you have to prepare a document to show you've kept your story straight." If that's the only way he can prove without doubt his innocence, then let him. We're still (at least we claim) innocent until proven guilty in this country, last I heard.

I never liked this guy, he just looks like a weasel. That said, I am curious about this document. Seems like a whole bunch of back peddaling to me. If the document proves to be inconsistent, he needs to be booted out!!

Also hated how when he was first trying to be Senator after Blagojevich nominated him, he used the race card... really? :eyeroll: Total weasel.

I guess it would depend on how much a special election would cost the state of IL. That's my concern, to be honest, since I've read that by the time the special election would get going, it would already be time for another regular election, sooo...yeah.

I voted yea. Dude is corrupt. Janneth, your comment cracked me up... Illinois is notorious for corruption. I lived there for seven years, during which I became used to it. Everyone knows the system is largely crooked. So it's always refreshing to realize that outside of the state, people aren't aware... reminds me that yes, it really IS that backwards there!

I think he should step down and maybe the state legislature can appoint his replacement? The only thing that would worry me if I lived in IL was to not have a senator while they get the gears of a (potentially expensive) special election together.

I said he never should have been given the seat in the first place. Now it's time for him to step down and let some other corrupt Illinois politician step in.

I say step down because I now question his effectiveness in the face of growing opposition.

My opinion on whether he's guilty or not is still out for deliberation. I try not to convict people based on what a situation may appear to be especially when there are still layers yet to be revealed. I try to convict based on details that clearly illustrate guilt.

What else would you expect? Our world as a whole is moving toward integrity and honesty but it will take a while for our politicians to figure that out. Fortunately it seem his peers aren't even supporting him so we're definitely going in the right direction!

I find it ironic, the Democrats fight to keep Burris out of the Senate because of the corruption of then governor Blagovitch, a week before they need 60 votes to pass the stimulus package, a week after the vote SHAZAM, Oh my God, the Democrats rediscover that Burris is tainted. As Captain Renault famously said “I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! ...” So much for the Republican “culture of corruption”, and Democrats “most open and ethical….”. Do you think the Democrats would be upset if they thought that Burris had a snowballs chance in hell of actually winning and keeping that seat two years from now?
