At nearly six minutes, this made-for-Internet ad is inciting the blogosphere with every click. Fifty-eight seconds in, you'll find the target of outrage: A family sitting on a porch blowing bubbles at each other (because that's what families do?) is seen through the lens of a sniper. Overhead an announcer says the following:
Marriage between man and woman is held up as the ideal in all of civilized society because of its profound stabilizing influence on our culture as well as the economic benefits of strong and in-tact families. But today that ideal is under an unrelenting attack. . . . Outside forces are working tirelessly to redefine marriage away from God's design to favor the desires of adults over the needs of children for the naturally balanced model of a mother and a father
The ad is on a site called wv4marriage.com, which ironically looks like a Craig's List solicitation at first glance. It appears to be paid for by CampaignSecrets.com, a Georgia firm that describes itself as "focused exclusively on electing Republicans to local office." The president of West Virginia's Family Policy Council said the council used the Georgia firm for its affordable rates, which is a relief because if you watch the ad you'll see it certainly couldn't be for its camera work!

I don't like this ad, it's praying on people's fears.
1... That's a pretty gay family.
2They can sit and shut the hell up. With all the straight people breaking up, and committing adultery and raping women and children they really need to just f**k off. It is not a stabilizing influence nor is a marriage strong just because it is between a man and a woman once again we have these people giving everyone else a bad day. Instead of getting your point across you just enrage people.

7This is what they believe, and what they believe thier target audience should hear, and then react to, and get involved with. I dont see it as inciting hate, or that a gay person with a gun is going to shoot a family, its a visualization of being "under attack". They are asking people to pray, to organize groups, not to incite rioting or kill gay people or be hateful at all.
Its cheesy, its not 1st rate, but its thier right to protect what they see is an attack on thier values.

I disagree. As one-half of a married couple making over $150k, I feel very targeted by the stimulus. We do not receive one direct benefit, but you'de better believe that we (and our children) will be paying for it. I'll get back on topic now...
20I just think, in my opinion, that if the means aren't justified by the ends in one case, they shouldn't in any. Whether we agree with them or not. I think people who worry about what other people do in the bedroom have too much time on their hands, but that is their opinion and as long as they aren't actually harming said people, it is their right to do so. On the other hand, when it comes to big government scare tactics, cutting out the American people and our wishes completely, etc, I find it horribly wrong.

29I like the ad. I agree that there is a problem with the whole recognition of marriages in one state, that aren't necessarily recognized in others. I also agree that the church is nad has been under attack from groups that don't want to allow what they consider "church teachings" in the classroom. I agree that there is a separation of the church and state, but if we are going to stray away from the normal definition of parents (mom and dad), then we should not move towards non-normal definitions. If we can't include all, we shouldn't include any.

31this ad is so stupid and nonsensical it makes me angry. i dont understand how people can really honestly think like this. it just pisses me off beyond belief. it's ridiculous, close-minded, old-fashion, bigoted, hateful, and WRONG on SO MANY levels. these people may call themselves christians but they are so far from it. the bible preaches love and acceptance. they may hold a few verses from the old testament up as an example of what the bible says is wrong or right, but they do not follow the old testament word-for-word by any means and therefore have no right to use any of it to ATTACK a group of people who are simply trying to LOVE each other and celebrate their love. THEY are the ones doing the attacking here!!

Furthermore, I like the ad. It's encouraging Christians to pray and get active in their state. I don't see this as a problem and find it funny how so many people on here feel the need to so viciously attack it.
33When I read the headline the first time I thought the people who appeared in anti-gay ads were getting shot by gay activists. I was thinking that was a little extreme lol.

I'm still trying to figure out why they feel like their families are under attack. No one asking to have their children taken away or suggest they get a divorce. Their family units are in tact as long as they keep them in tact.
If there are schools out there dropping the use of mother and father IMO they're stupid.
I heard mention a couple of time about the protection of religious freedom. Well what about the religious freedom of Gay friendly churches? Don't they deserve the same protection? Seems to me, they do.
35Why does it always come down to "gays" being evangelical and teaching their "beliefs" to children in schools? The term parent was pushed when I was in elementary school because it was accepted the some kids are raised by their grandparents, aunts/uncles, foster parent, cousins, sibling, etc. and that mother/father was insensitive to kids who were abandoned or whose parents have died.
To twist it into a "gay" influence is just wrong. I think this an issue of reflecting IMO. "Motherhood is denounced", is this their way of saying encouraging young girls to get educated, have careers and plans families the way they want to is wrong.
I didn't realize "God's Plan" and "God's Christian Plan" at that had so much influence on our secular country. Also how does gay marriage affect your ability to have a straight, religious marriage? This ad just makes me feel a little dirty after watching it.

Religious liberty is protected in our country so that the majority (which is the group this ad represents) cannot force the minority to fall in line with its religious dogma. They can send their children to private Christian schools if they think the "liberal agenda" is out to get their schoolchildren.

37I don't know that I would consider the religious group that made this commercial the dominate religious group in this country. I agree that the majority shouldn't use their numbers to push their own agenda on the minority, but the minority should not be allowed to use the courts to push their agenda on the majority.
