All passengers and crew members died in a major plane crash in New York state last night. Continental Airlines Flight 3407 was commuting from Newark to Buffalo when it crashed into a home, five minutes before landing. One person on the ground died, too, bringing the death toll to 50.

Among the passengers was Beverly Eckert, a woman whose husband died in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
Fires, fueled by a natural gas leak, made it difficult for investigators to retrieve the cockpit, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
This is the second major air crash in a month for New York. The state has barely finished celebrating the miracle of US Airways Flight 1549. Now residents must face a tragic ending.
Our hearts go out to the victims' families.

So horrible and strange that it nosedived into one house. With no indication from the flight crew that anything was wrong.
1A few people I know live on that street. Eerie.
2So sad.
3This is so sad. What is even scarier is that when I first heard about this, for the tiniest second my brain went automatically to "Oh my God, here we go again."
4They are saying that the weather may have caused the problem. It was very icy and the other problem may have had something to do with the tail of the plane a part called the elevator which has been known to happen on this model airplane. It was a newer 2007 plane from what I have heard! So sad, I know this area well and it is a beautiful little close knit town.May all involved find peace and know others care.
5this is so sad
6I'm from Buffalo, and this is a heartbreaking day for all of us here. I was actually on a flight from Boston that landed at the Buffalo airport just a few hours before this crash, so this is such a surreal day for me. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families.
7I feel so bad for those families.
8so sad.
I grew up in Buffalo...I'm sitting here wondering if all my friends are safe. It's so tragic.
9Terrible.
