America's Top 10 Most Popular Cities!
Each year the Pew Research Center looks into social and demographic trends.
The survey investigates whether Americans like cities more than suburbs (the young do), whether they are satisfied with where they live (80 percent are), and how often they move (37 percent have lived in the same place their whole lives). It also breaks down preferences by political party, age, and gender. But my favorite part of the survey is the overall ranking of American cities. Find out which metropolises win the national popularity contest! And here's a hint — heavyweights like New York and Los Angeles don't make the cut!

I LOVE how most of the cities are on the west coast! The west coast is BEAUTIMOUS.

2I agree. I'd like to know what these choices are based apon, because I have a list of my own.
3The city I live in (yay Portland) and the city I plan on eventually moving to (yay Seattle) both made the list.
4Dave it was mostly like a poll. These cities all share similar characteristics. They're not super cities like LA, New York, Chicago, or Miami, but they are urban (well Orlando is probably the least urban), average cost of rent is pretty excellent, and they all are pretty high on the entertainment ladder (I think).
Portland has the most restaurants per capita and a lot of these cities are homes to major attractions, such as Orlando and Seattle.
5And don't forget Jessie, the Portland area is rapidly becoming "THE" place that directors want to film in!

7Yeah Clara, we had one film filmed at my college and of course there is Twilight. I have no idea why they want to film here. It's beautiful, but it's overcast and rainy so many days of the year, you would think that would limit film possibilities.
I thought when I left my hometown of LA I left the inconvenience of having filming where you live and have to park...I guess not

9Seattle and Portland are cool to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. SF too. Sacramento is a town I could actually live in. i am very surprised to see it made this list. It has been my secret hideaway!
I'm in love with Pacific NW Hainan...even though it does a number on my allergies. I think all those years in LA, coupled with my migraine sensitivity has taught me to detest sunlight. The Pacific NW is my overcast sanctuary most of the year.
Sacramento shocked me too, because I always think of Sacramento of as that strange city that happens to be the capital of the state I grew up in. I never knew why.

11Hmmm... apparently calling Orlando and Tampa "backwater cesspools" isn't allowed in the comments? (My first comment saying as much has mysteriously never appeared) Their inclusion on this list nullifies the legitimacy of the rest of the survey.
12I'm a pacific northwesterner born and raised. I'm in Castle Rock Washington right now, but I've lived in Portland, Seattle, Salem, Bend, Medford, Vancouver, Tacoma all OVER the place. I love it here!
13I'm amazed that Minneapolis didn't make the list! Sure, six months of the year nipples are flying off left and right because of the cold, but it's a great city!

17San Diego has nearly perfect weather year round and San Francisco is beautiful, but Sacramento?
I love Los Angeles and New York to visit, but not sure I'd want to live there. I wonder what 11-20 were.
18Boo how could Pittsburgh be left out! I know it's not that appealing because of how freezing it gets in the winter, but the people here are one of a kind and probably some of the nicest people you will ever meet!

29Yeah, most of these make sense to me except Sacramento. It's not a very nice city.
30Somehow I am not surprised thatmy city Baltimore didn't make the cut. most of the cities on the list are not my cupof tea but hey... whatever floats your boat.
31I found this list to be very strange. A lot of the cities on there I would not think of as great places to visit.
32HAHA I live in Balt too, symphonee... not surprised that Charm City didn't make the list. I really like living here though!
33I live in Miami but im suprised Atlanta didnt make it. Because besides new york and la, atlanta has all the stars(rappers and singers mostly).And atl has the busiet airport in the WORLD so alot of people obviosuly go through atl. Plus most rappers now a days are from atlanta

37Probably the most beautiful scenery you will ever see, no joke. That's why PNC Park is rated No. 2 on MLB's best ballparks. The beautiful city line will fascinate you.
