More than half of you have felt the effects of the economic downturn in your relationship, but just because you're not painting the town as red as you used to, the fun doesn't have to stop. Instead of getting down, start enjoying the simpler life. Here are five ways to help you do just that, and if I've forgotten anything, tell me how you and your partner are spending your nights these days in the comments below.
- Rent a movie (or borrow one from a friend or co-worker), pop some popcorn, and make it movie night at home!
- Invite your friends over for a potluck dinner. Assign each couple a course and trade recipes at the end of the night — it's a great way to expand your recipe box.
If you want more ideas, just read more.
- Make it a romantic night in. Light some candles and take turns massaging each other. I can't think of a better excuse to stay home!
- Use the time you'd usually be out and about to check off your chores list — I'm sure you both have plenty of work to do!
- Scrapbook together. Combine each other's memorabilia boxes and make a scrapbook of your relationship that you both can enjoy.

We love our movie nights--we did a British Romantic Comedies Starring Hugh Grant one just recently!
I think it's nice to be able to enjoy each others' company at home
1Great ideas, Dear. I LOVE potlucks.
2Movies!
3I am definitely a fan of movie nights or TV marathons on DVD.
4We just signed up for netflix and I have no idea why we didn't before. Doing movie theme nights should be a lot easier now.
Another idea: Cheap wine party. Invite friends over and stipulate that everyone has to bring a bottle of cheap (under $10) wine. I love wine and I love finding new good, cheap brands even more. Getting drunk w/ friends for the price of one club cocktail in the comfort of the home beats going out to bars!
5Movie nights are fun...I also like playing games at home. Board games, card games, dominoes.
6I love doing movie nights
7I do or would do all of these, except the scrapbooking thing...my husband would never get into that. LOL
8If my boyfriend wanted to do the scrapbooking thing, I think I would begin to wonder about him!
9Movie nights are good, but my man seems to ALWAYS pass out lol! And I am stuck watching House of 1000 Corpses alone!!!
10I like these ideas. I'm not much of a party animal to begin with, so I really enjoy spending time at home with my bf. He seems to be settling down more too (he doesn't party as much as he used to!). We watch lots of movies in bed together and cook together. Very relaxing!
11I think my boyfriend and I may be the only people who take turns trying to beat each other's scores to games online. We also do movie night. We just did "Hancock" last week.
12Never would have thought of the potluck idea! Great one!
13If my boyfriend wanted to do scrapbooking then I would be VERY scared. The only thing we actually have time for here is the chores.
14We do a lot of potluck dinners with friends. And we designate the night as a movie night (since we own over 600) or a game night. Lately, we've been having Scattergories nights.
15When I was younger I loved dancing at discotechs and niteclubs. We turn on the radio to this station that has a good dj and we actually dance around the living room. It's good foreplay because he's a terrible dancer and I'm just flattered he would do that for me at all!
16we love going for walks or to the pool/gym/yoga together..
17we also have themed cookoffs like we'll do an italian day where we make risotto and tiramisu, drink wine and watch fellini.. or bake empanadas (he's from chile), drink pisco and watch almodovar..
another amazing alternative to our usual rounds of clubbing/movie/sports/cooking is her holiness the Playstation! I love geeking out.
but really, you don't need to do stuff together either. there's nothing I enjoy more than those quiet times when he's off playing guitar and I'm on the couch reading a book. unfortunately there hasn't been a lot of those with his master's, my six classes and two jobs. meh.
